Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Wholly Aromatic Copolyesters Based on 4'-Hydroxybiphenyl-3-Carboxylic and 3-Hydroxybenzoic Acids.

A series of new wholly aromatic (co)polyesters based on -substituted bifunctional comonomers-4'-hydroxybiphenyl-3-carboxylic (3HBCA) and 3-hydroxybenzoic (3HBA) acids with molar ratios of 3HBCA:3HBA from 0:100 to 60:40, respectively-was synthesized. NMR and FTIR spectroscopy methods proved the full compliance of the copolymer composition with the target ratio of comonomers, as well as high compositional homogeneity (absence of block sequences). The resulting copolyesters have a sufficiently high molecular weight and their intrinsic viscosity values are in the range of 0.

Bioremediation of Oil-Contaminated Soil of the Republic of Kazakhstan Using a New Biopreparation.

A new biopreparation is developed to clean soils from oil pollution in the arid climate of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The biopreparation includes bacterial strains F2-1, F2-2, and BS3701. When using the biopreparation in a liquid mineral medium with 15% crude oil, laboratory studies have revealed degradation of 48% n-alkanes and 39% of PAHs after 50 days.

[Role of protein kinases of human red cell membrane in deformability and aggregation changes].

The proteomic analysis has showed that red cell membrane contains several kinases and phosphatases. Therefore the aim of this study was to investigate the role of protein kinases of human red cell membrane in deformability and aggregation changes. Exposure of red blood cells (RBCs) to some chemical compounds led to change in the RBC microrheological properties.

Red blood cell aggregation changes are depended on its initial value: Effect of long-term drug treatment and short-term cell incubation with drug.

This study was designed to investigate whether the red cell aggregation depends on its initial level under drug therapy or cell incubation with bioactive chemical compounds. Sixty six subjects were enrolled onto this study, and sub-divided into two groups: the first group of patients (n = 36) with cerebral atherosclerosis received pentoxifylline therapy (400 mg, thrice daily) for 4 weeks. The patients of the second group were initially treated with Epoetin beta 10,000 units subcutaneously thrice a week, for 4 weeks.

[Therapeutic action of radioprotector indometofen].

The experiments on mice and dogs have shown the effectiveness of indomethofene administration after total acute radiation exposure. Introduction of indomethofene at doses of 15 and 30 mg/kg during time from 30 min to 3 days after irradiation resulted in reliable increase of mice survivability, 40-60% on average. Mice survival rate after single peroral introduction of indomethofene radioprotective doses was comparable with that resulting from referencing preparation estrofeme, which is estradiol oral dosage from (under the assumption that in contrast to indometafene estrofeme was introduced repeatedly every other day from 3 till 21 day after irradiation).

[Influence of the indometafen radioprotector on the immune reactivity].

In the experiments on dogs and mice it was shown that indometophene could modify the immune status of the body. Specific and non-specific resistance of mice to E. coli infection increased after indometophene administration.

[The role of beta-adrenoreceptors in the mechanism of the hemodynamic action and radiation-protective activity of the copolymer of 2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine with 2-methyl-5-vinylpyridinium-N-oxide].

In experiment on anesthetized dogs and cats in was shown that the new water-soluble copolymer initiated depressive reaction characteristic for beta-adrenomimetics. This effect was levelled with the help of non-selective adrenoblockator--propranololum. In experiment on dogs the preliminary treatment with propranololum decreased the therapeutic antiradiation efficiency of the copolymer from 68.

[Experimental study of combined effect of actoprotectors and radioprotectors in radiation injury].

Combined treatment of mice and dogs with actoprotector bimethyl and radioprotector indralin suppressed radioprotective action of the latter, the surveillance being decreased from 83.3 to 14.3% in dogs and from 70.

[Effect of co-polymer 2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine and 2-methyl-5- vinylpyridinium-n-oxide radiation induced myelodepression in mice].

On the model of cytopenia induced in mice by irradiation with a dose of 4.0 Gy it was shown that injection of examined copolymer (400 mg/kg) 3 h after irradiation exerts positive effect on haemopoietic system: the decrease of damage and acceleration of repair processes.

[Radioprotective activity and toxicity of copolymer 2-methyl-5-vinyl pyridine with 2-methyl-5-vinylpyridinium-n-oxide].

In experiments in mice, hamsters and dogs therapeutic radioprotective efficiency and toxicity of new water-soluble copolymer were studied. It was found that at intramuscular injection of the copolymer to dogs in a dose of 5 mg/kg 24 h after irradiation with a dose of 3.30 Gy (LD85/45) it showed pronounced therapeutic effect (68.

[Percutaneous puncture treatment of kidney cysts under echographic control].

Experience had with percutaneous puncture treatment under echographic control in 122 patients presenting kidney cysts is shared. The indications and contraindications for treatment, puncture technique applied and drugs used for cyst epithelium sclerosis are discussed, followed by a description of an original method of cyst cavity draining. In all patients with cyst drainage duely performed the outcome of treatment is successful.

[The removal of calculi from the pelvic ureter by extracorporeal lithotripsy].

Using high-energy impulses from Dornier HM-3 lithotriptor, iliac ureteroliths were crushed in 18 patients for the period of 2.5 years. The mean age of the patients was 38 years.

[The treatment of calculi in the iliac segment of the ureter by extracorporeal high-energy shockwave lithotripsy].

Experience is recorded with the treatment of calculi in the iliac segment of the ureter by extracorporal lithotripsy with high-energy stroke waves with lithotriptor of the firm "Dornier", model HM-3. For a period of 2 1/2 years 18 patients at mean age 38 years have been treated. Retrograde catheterization was always performed before lithotripsy.

[The treatment of coralliform kidney calculosis with extracorporeal lithotripsy, percutaneous lithotripsy and ureteroscopy].

Experience is recorded with the combined treatment of 53 patients with coralliform renal calculosis. Combined application of bypass lithotripsy (BLT), percutaneous lithotripsy (PLT) and ureterorenoscopy (URS) is an alternative to open surgical intervention. Depending on the size, form and position of the calculus, the degree of destruction of the residual concrements, combined therapy was applied, as follows: 17 patients--PLT and BLT, 7 patients--PLT, BLT and URS, 7 patients--URS and BLT, 13 patients--BLT and URS, 8 patients--BLT and URS.

[Echocardiographic research on the left ventricular function of patients with a complete atrioventricular block before and after pacemaker implantation].

Twenty seven patients with total atrioventricular (AV) block at the age of 29-83 were examined (average age--69 years, females--13, males--14); with cardiac decompensation stage 1-8 patients, stage II--13 patients and stage III--1 patient; without cardiac decompensation--5 patients. During the examination period, no cardiotonics and dehydrating drugs were administered. The examination was carried out prior to and 10 days post the implantation of an electro-stimulator VVI with an echocardiograph M-type in the standard method.

[Atrial paroxysmal tachycardia with atrioventricular block--their treatment by precordial electrostimulation].

The object of the material are the criteria for correct diagnosis. A case with atrial paroxysmal tachycardia with AV block is discussed as well as termination of attacks by means of intracardial electrostimulation. The problem of treatment of this kind of tachycardia with temporary and permanent electrostimulation is discussed.

[Torsade de pointes ventricular tachycardia].

This kind of ventricular tachycardia presents a special type of tachycardia and the diagnostics is of particular importance in this case. It was described by French authors in 1970 during bradycardia and especially during complete AV block with low ventricular frequency. Arrhythmia present at tachycardial form of atrial flutter, and its treatment with electro-stimulation and sinus rhythm restoration are described.

[Leprosy in Bulgaria. Epidemiology, Clinical forms and treatment (author's transl)].

Leprosy is a rare disease in Bulgaria. There have been 58 cases registered during the last one hundred years. The number of leprous patients in 1980 was 13, most of them came from the northern part of the country.
