Purpose: This study evaluates the effectiveness of implantation of extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lenses (IOL) in patients with cataract and glaucoma.
Material And Methods: The study included 13 patients (16 eyes) who underwent implantation of the Lentis Comfort EDOF IOL (Teleon Surgical BV, Netherlands). Standard phacoemulsification cataract surgery with IOL implantation was performed in a planned manner after the hypotensive surgery stage in two eyes; a combined procedure was performed in 14 cases.
Eating disorders with skipping meals are considered as a risk factor for chronic non-communicable diseases. Frequent skipping of meals is associated with the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Breakfast is considered to be the most important meal of the day.

In this work, we develop a technological process for the fabrication of ridge microresonators in waveguide heterostructures with multiple HgCdTe QWs via photolithography and ion etching. We process two samples with different ridge heights and analyze their emission spectra measured under optical excitation.

These fluctuations exist in macroscopic samples with characteristic sizes of 100 μm and exhibit anomalous dependences on the gate voltage, magnetic field, and temperature. They are absent in the regime of electron metal (at positive gate voltages) and strongly depend on the level of disorder in the system.

After analysis of published reports, the most justified classification of methods of peritonitis modelling is based on the type of peritonitis-inducing agent and the administration route and on the nature of peritonitis developing in the abdominal cavity. The choice of the model maximally close reproducing clinical conditions of peritonitis should be based on the specific objectives of the study, focusing on the etiology, pathogenesis, and severity of the disease course, planned measures aimed at eliminating the process, and other factors.

The theory predicts the topological protection of the helical transport from coherent backscattering. However, the unexpected deviations of the conductance from the quantized value and localization of the helical modes are generally observed in long samples.

Unlike thinner and strained HgTe films, which are known as high-quality three-dimensional topological insulators, the film under study is much thicker than the limit of pseudomorphic growth of HgTe on a CdTe substrate. Therefore, the 1000 nm HgTe film is expected to be fully relaxed and has the band structure of bulk HgTe, i.

Moreover, tools to monitor previous Piezo1 activation are not available. Therefore, by using live calcium imaging with Fluo-4 AM and labeling with FM1-43 dye, we explored a new strategy to identify Piezo channels' activity in mouse trigeminal neurons, SGCs, and isolated meninges.

In this work, we analyze the thresholds of stimulated emission (SE) under optical pumping from heterostructures with a different number of QWs in the active region of the structure. Total losses in structures are determined from the comparison of thresholds for the different number of QWs in the active region.

Mitochondria, mainly known as energy factories of eukaryotic cells, also exert several additional signaling and metabolic functions and are today recognized as major cellular biosynthetic and signaling hubs. Mitochondria possess their own genome (mitochondrial DNA-mtDNA), that encodes proteins essential for oxidative phosphorylation, and mutations in it are an important contributor to human disease. The mtDNA mutations often exist in heteroplasmic conditions, with both healthy and mutant versions of the mtDNA residing in patients' cells and the level of mutant mtDNA may vary between different tissues and organs and affect the clinical outcome of the disease.

In this work, we examined both macroscopic and micron-sized (mesoscopic) samples. In micron-sized samples, we observe a magnetic-field-induced quantized resistance (~/2) at Landau filling factor ν=0, corresponding to the formation of helical edge states centered at the charge neutrality point (CNP).

In Alzheimer's disease (AD), toxic amyloid beta (Aβ) accumulates in the brain and forms stiff plaques. In late-onset AD accounting for 95% of all cases, this is thought to be due to reduced clearance of Aβ.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA system of lymphatic vessels has been recently characterized in the meninges, with a postulated role in 'cleaning' the brain via cerebral fluid drainage. As meninges are the origin site of migraine pain, we hypothesized that malfunctioning of the lymphatic system should affect the local trigeminal nociception. To test this hypothesis, we studied nociceptive and inflammatory mechanisms in the hemiskull preparations (containing the meninges) of K14-VEGFR3-Ig (K14) mice lacking the meningeal lymphatic system.

Mitophagy is widely reported to be impaired in neurodegeneration but it is unknown whether and how transmitophagy is altered in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Here we report that the internalization of neuronal mitochondria is significantly increased in astrocytes isolated from AD mouse brains.

Several methods of extracting the Rashba spin-splitting at zero magnetic field and their magnetic field dependences from the beatings of SdH oscillations are used for greater reliability. The large and similar Rashba splitting (25-27 meV) is found for different kinds of spectrum, explained by a significant fraction of the p-type wave functions, in both the E1 subband of the sample with a normal spectrum and the H1 subband for the sample with an inverted one.

The thermoelectric response of 80 nm-thick strained HgTe films of a three-dimensional topological insulator (3D TI) has been studied experimentally. An ambipolar thermopower is observed where the Fermi energy moves from conducting to the valence bulk band. The comparison between theory and experiment shows that the thermopower is mostly due to the phonon drag contribution.

This is demonstrated on an example of heterostructures based on thick topological HgCdTe films, in which the PT-symmetric terahertz photoconductivity is observed.
