Affective Experience and Regulation via Sleep, Touch, and "Sleep-Touch" Among Couples.

Touch associated with sleep (; reported physical contact during or shortly before/after sleep) is underexplored as a distinct contributor to affect regulatory processes associated with adult sleep. Given the affect-regulating effects of interpersonal touch, we theorized that among healthy co-sleeping adults, sleep-touch would add to sleep-related effects on affective "resetting," resulting in the experience of calmer, more regulated states. We studied 210 married heterosexual couples (aged 20-67 years, 79% non-Hispanic white, 13% Latinx) assigned 14 days of twice-daily (morning/evening) sleep/mood diaries.

Efficacy and safety of carisbamate in patients with diabetic neuropathy or postherpetic neuralgia: results from 3 randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled trials.

The results of 3 proof-of-concept studies to evaluate carisbamate's efficacy and safety in treating neuropathic pain are presented. In studies 1 (postherpetic neuralgia, n = 91) and 2 (diabetic neuropathy, n = 137), patients received carisbamate 400 mg/day or placebo for 4 weeks and then crossed over to the other treatment for 4 weeks. In study 3 (diabetic neuropathy, higher carisbamate doses), patients (n = 386) were randomized (1:1:1:1) to receive either carisbamate 800 mg/day, 1200 mg/day, pregabalin 300 mg/day or placebo for 15 weeks.

Effect of topiramate monotherapy on height in newly diagnosed children with epilepsy.

We conducted a post hoc assessment of the effect of ≥6 months of topiramate monotherapy on height in pediatric patients with newly diagnosed partial-onset seizure. Data on height measured nonsystematically up to 4 years from two randomized, double-blind studies and their open-label extensions were combined and converted to z scores and percentiles by patient's sex and age. Height velocity values (centimeters per year) and the associated z scores were computed for each postbaseline year using normative data.

Community-university Research Liaisons: Translating the Languages of Research and Culture.

This article describes the experiences of six individuals employed as community-university research liaisons in a grant-funded centre for health disparities research. The liaisons were located in Native American communities and bridged the communities and the university, providing information between these groups, expanding understanding and knowledge of how research can address health disparities, and assisting in the development and ongoing work of partnerships using CBPR approaches. While tribal communities within the state may face similar health disparities, the approach to solving these disparities must be based on an understanding of the context and environment of the specific tribal community.

Pharmacokinetics and safety of adjunctive topiramate in infants (1-24 months) with refractory partial-onset seizures: a randomized, multicenter, open-label phase 1 study.

Purpose: To characterize the pharmacokinetics of adjunctive topiramate in infants (1-24 months) with refractory partial-onset seizures (POS); also to evaluate safety and tolerability of topiramate in the dose range of 3-25 mg/kg/day.

Methods: In this open-label phase 1 study, infants (N = 55) with refractory POS receiving at least one concurrent antiepileptic drug (AED) were enrolled. Infants were stratified by age and randomly assigned to one of four topiramate target dose groups (3-, 5-, 15-, or 25 mg/kg/day).

Adaptive behavior outcomes in infants treated with adjunctive topiramate.

Data from two global studies (6-week open-label, phase 1 study; 20-day double-blind, phase 3 study) and their 1-year open-label extensions were pooled to assess long-term effects of adjunctive topiramate on adaptive behavior in infants with clinical or video-electroencephalographic evidence of refractory, partial-onset seizures. The primary safety and efficacy results of adjunctive topiramate treatment were reported previously. We report the changes in adaptive behavior of infants, based on Vineland Scales of Adaptive Behavior.

Long-term open-label study of adjunctive topiramate in infants with refractory partial-onset seizures.

Data from 2 studies (phase 1 and phase 3) in infants <2 years old (N = 284; mean [SD] age, 12[6.3] months) with refractory partial-onset seizures were pooled to assess the long-term safety up to 1 year (primary objective) and tolerability of adjunctive topiramate treatment (mean treatment duration = 282 days). Monthly seizure rate summaries were also assessed.
