Ultraviolet fluorescence photography: patterns in established pterygia.

- The study aimed to create a method using ultraviolet fluorescence photography (UVFP) to detect early signs of eye damage from sun exposure in children.
- Conducted with 71 children aged 3 to 15 in Sydney, Australia, the observational study compared UVFP results with standard photography to identify areas of increased fluorescence and existing pingueculae (a type of eye growth).
- Results showed that 32% of children had increased fluorescence on UVFP, primarily in those aged 9 and older, indicating that UVFP could effectively identify early ocular sun damage before visible symptoms occur.
