Randomised controlled trial of calcium and supplementation with cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) for prevention of fractures in primary care.

Objective: To assess whether supplementation with calcium and cholecaliferol (vitamin D3) reduces the risk of fracture in women with one or more risk factors for fracture of the hip.

Design: Pragmatic open randomised controlled trial.

Setting: Practice nurse led clinics in primary care.

Randomized controlled trial of hip protectors among women living in the community.

Objective: To assess whether hip protectors used among women living in the community in the United Kingdom and at high risk of hip fracture, lead to a reduction in hip fracture.

Design: Pragmatic randomized controlled trial (RCT).

Setting: Primary care with participants being recruited largely from general practitioners' patient lists.
