Many students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have negative social experiences with classmates and teachers. The Making Socially Accepting Inclusive Classrooms (MOSAIC) intervention asked teachers to give positive attention strategies to students at risk for ADHD, at a 3:1 ratio compared to their peers. Evidence suggested that although MOSAIC students at risk for ADHD reported improved relationships with teachers, they were more disliked by their classroom peers, relative to counterparts in a typical practice control group.

Objective: Saliva serves multiple important functions crucial for maintaining a healthy oral and systemic environment. Among them, the pH buffering effect, which is primarily mediated by bicarbonate ions, helps maintain oral homeostasis by neutralizing acidity from ingested foods. Therefore, higher buffering capacity, reflecting the ability to neutralize oral acidity, may influence taste sensitivity, especially for sour taste since it involves sensing H ions.

  • APTs (adaptive platform trials) allow multiple drugs to be tested against a common control group, offering flexibility as drugs can be added or removed during the trial based on ongoing results.
  • A simulation study comparing APTs to traditional stand-alone trials for COVID-19 showed that APTs generally have a shorter total development period, but this advantage can decrease if patient enrollment speeds up as infection rates rise.
  • While APTs can enhance efficiency in drug development without compromising statistical validity, their effectiveness relies on various factors like patient enrollment speed, sample size, error adjustments, and trial design, necessitating careful planning during a pandemic.

Although an increasing body of literature has linked social experiences to physical health, research has yet to consider how specific aspects of social experiences taking place on social media during late adolescence may predict future physical health outcomes. This study thus examined qualities of social media posts received from peers at age 21 as predictors of participants' physical health (e.g.

Objective: Cognitive disengagement syndrome (CDS) includes excessive daydreaming, mental confusion, and hypoactive behaviors that are distinct from attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder inattentive (ADHD-IN) symptoms. A growing number of studies indicate that CDS symptoms may be associated with ratings of social withdrawal. However, it is important to examine this association in children specifically recruited for the presence or absence of CDS, and to incorporate multiple methods including direct observations of peer interactions.

  • A clinical trial investigated the use of inhaled granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF), specifically sargramostim, as a treatment for COVID-19 pneumonia in hospitalized patients, comparing its effects against a placebo.
  • The study involved 75 patients and measured improvements over 5 days, finding no significant difference in overall recovery or oxygenation levels between the sargramostim and placebo groups, except for the serum marker CCL17.
  • However, lower doses of concurrent corticosteroids appeared to enhance the benefits of sargramostim, suggesting it may be more effective with controlled steroid use, while adverse events were similar between both treatment groups.

Chemical modifications are necessary to ensure the metabolic stability and efficacy of oligonucleotide-based therapeutics. Here, we describe analyses of the α-(l)-threofuranosyl nucleic acid (TNA) modification, which has a shorter 3'-2' internucleotide linkage than the natural DNA and RNA, in the context of small interfering RNAs (siRNAs). The TNA modification enhanced nuclease resistance more than 2'--methyl or 2'-fluoro ribose modifications.

Recently, it was reported that the alkynyl modification of nucleobases mitigates the toxicity of antisense oligonucleotides (ASO) while maintaining the efficacy. However, the general effect of alkynyl modifications on the duplex-forming ability of oligonucleotides (ONs) is unclear. In this study, post-synthetic nucleobase modification by Sonogashira coupling in aqueous medium was carried out to efficiently evaluate the physiological properties of various ONs with alkynyl-modified nucleobases.

Although vaccines for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) disease 2019 (COVID-19) induce effective immune responses, vaccination with booster doses is necessary because of waning immunity. We conducted an open-label, non-randomized, single-arm study in adults in Japan to assess the immunogenicity and safety of a single booster dose of the KD-414 purified whole-SARS-CoV-2-virion inactivated vaccine candidate after vaccination with a primary series of BNT162b2. The primary endpoint was serum neutralizing activity at 7 days after booster injection compared with the primary series of BNT162b2.

Mechanisms for the α-adrenoceptor-mediated positive inotropy in neonatal mouse ventricular myocardium were studied with isolated myocardial preparations. The phenylephrine-induced positive inotropy was suppressed by prazosin, nifedipine, and chelerythrine, a protein kinase C inhibitor, but not by SEA0400, a selective Na/Ca exchanger inhibitor. Phenylephrine increased the L-type Ca channel current and prolonged the action potential duration, while the voltage-dependent K channel current was not influenced.
