Background: Impaired sensorimotor gating, commonly measured as disrupted prepulse inhibition (PPI) of the acoustic startle response, has been widely observed in psychotic diseases. However, most PPI studies published so far involve patients with long illness duration and different drug treatments. Few studies have investigated untreated patients at their first episode of psychotic symptoms.
