Planar Hall magnetoresistance (PHMR) sensors are widely utilized due to their high sensitivity, simple structure, and cost-effectiveness. However, their performance is influenced by both the driving mode and the thickness of the ferromagnetic layer, yet the combined effects of these factors remain insufficiently explored. This study systematically investigates the impact of NiFe thickness (5-35 nm) on PHMR sensor performance under constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) modes, with a focus on optimizing the peak-to-peak voltage (V).

Toxic protein aggregates are associated with various neurodegenerative diseases, including Huntington's disease (HD). Since no current treatment delays the progression of HD, we develop a mechanistic approach to prevent mutant huntingtin (mHttex1) aggregation. Here, we engineer the ATP-independent cytosolic chaperone PEX19, which targets peroxisomal membrane proteins to peroxisomes, to remove mHttex1 aggregates.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the effectiveness of using 3D transesophageal echocardiography to determine balloon size for percutaneous mitral balloon commissurotomy (PMBC) in patients with mitral stenosis (MS).
  • Traditional methods of selecting balloon size rely on a patient's height or body surface area, which may not be as accurate as the new approach based on mitral valve measurements.
  • Results showed that using optimized formulas for balloon size selection led to different outcomes in groups with successful PMBC, residual MS, or significant mitral regurgitation (MR), suggesting that 3D measurements can improve treatment efficacy.

This study compared treatment outcomes of slow coagulation transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (SC-CPC, 65 eyes) and micropulse transscleral laser treatment (MPL, 134 eyes) in patients with medically uncontrolled glaucoma. Success was defined as achieving an intraocular pressure (IOP) of 6-21 mmHg with a ≥ 20% reduction from baseline, no reoperation for glaucoma, and no loss of light-perception vision. Visual acuity, number of glaucoma medication, corneal endothelial cell count, aqueous flare values, and complications were analyzed.

A previously reported study highlighted the neuroprotective potential of the novel benzylideneacetophenone derivative, JC3, in mice. In pursuit of compounds with even more robust neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties compared to JC3, we synthesized substituted 1,3-diphenyl-2-propen-1-ones based on chalcones. Molecular modeling studies aimed at discerning the chemical structural features conducive to heightened biological activity revealed that JCII-8,10,11 exhibited the widest HOMOLUMO gap within this category, indicating facile electron and radical transfer between HOMO and LUMO in model assessments.
