The illuminated current-voltage characteristics of Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se) (CIGSSe) thin film solar cells fabricated using two different buffer layer processes: chemical bath deposition (CBD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD) were investigated. The CIGSSe solar cell with the ALD buffer showed comparable conversion efficiency to the CIGSSe solar cell with CBD buffer but lower shunt resistance even though it showed lower point shunt defect density as measured in electroluminescence. The shunt paths were investigated in detail by capturing the high-resolution dark lock-in thermography images, resolving the shunt resistance contributions of the scribing patterns (P1, P3), and depth profiling of the constituent elements.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to analyze and visualize the distribution of patients visiting the periodontology department at a dental college hospital, using a geographic information system (GIS) to utilize these data in patient care and treatment planning, which may help to assess the risk and prevent periodontal diseases.

Methods: Basic patient information data were obtained from Dankook University Dental Hospital, including the unit number, gender, date of birth, and address, down to the dong (neighborhood) administrative district unit, of 306,656 patients who visited the hospital between 2007 and 2014. The data of only 26,457 patients who visited the periodontology department were included in this analysis.

What is the central question of this study? Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress has been reported to be involved in type 2 diabetes; however, the role of exacerbated ER stress in vascular dysfunction in type 2 diabetes remains unknown. What is the main finding and its importance? The main findings of this study are that ER stress is increased in the coronary arteries in type 2 diabetes, and inhibition of ER stress using taurine-conjugated ursodeoxycholic acid improves vascular function, which is associated with normalization of the myogenic response and endothelium-dependent relaxation. Vascular dysfunction is a major complication in type 2 diabetes.

Lipoteichoic acid (LTA) is a component of the cell wall of Gram-positive bacteria and induces a toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2)-mediated inflammatory response upon initial binding to lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP) and subsequent transfer to CD14. In this study, we identified a novel role for the nuclear protein high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) in LTA-mediated inflammation. Results of ELISA, surface plasmon resonance and native PAGE electrophoretic mobility shift analyses indicated that HMGB1 binds to LTA in a concentration-dependent manner and that this binding is inhibited by LBP.

Aims: The goal of the current study was to determine whether the sphingosine kinase 1 (SK1)/sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) pathway is involved in myogenic vasoconstriction under normal physiological conditions. In the present study, we assessed whether endogenous S1P generated by pressure participates in myogenic vasoconstriction and which signaling pathways are involved in SK1/S1P-induced myogenic response under normal physiological conditions.

It has been suggested that mechanosensitive ion channels initiate myogenic responses in vessels; however, the molecular identity of the mechanosensitive ion channel complex is unknown. Although previous reports have suggested that epithelial Na(+) channel (ENaC) proteins are mechanotransducers in arteries, experimental evidence demonstrating that ENaC proteins are mechanotransducers are not fully elucidated. The goal of the present study was to determine whether the ENaC is a mechanotransducer for the myogenic response by providing supporting evidence in the rat posterior cerebral artery (PCA).
