Paw San rice, also known as "Myanmar pearl rice", is considered the highest quality rice in Myanmar. There are considerable differences in terms of the premium commercial value of Paw San rice, which is an incentive for fraud, e.g.

Autologous thrombi encapsulated in alginate microspheres with a diameter of 190±48 μm were intravenously injected to rats 8 times every 4 days. In the comparison group, nonmodified thrombi were injected.

A classical market surveillance study, evaluating compliance to the European Pharmacopoeia, was combined with a fingerprint study, the latter to obtain characteristic data for the different manufacturers, allowing the network laboratories to conduct authenticity tests for future samples, as well as to detect substandard and falsified samples. In total, 46 tadalafil API samples from 13 different manufacturers were collected.

Therapeutic approaches to prevention of fibrotic remodeling of the pulmonary vascular bed in CTEPH are limited. In this work, we tested the hypothesis that Janus kinase 1/2 (JAK1/2) inhibition with ruxolitinib might prevent and attenuate CTEPH in a rat model.

There is a need for rapid, non-destructive, and efficient analytical techniques for monitoring the authenticity of Arabica coffee beans in the supply chain. In this study, multispectral imaging (MSI) was applied to discriminate roasted Arabica and Robusta coffee beans and perform quantitative prediction of Arabica coffee bean adulteration with Robusta.

Aim: The present study aims to compare interleukin 6 concentration in synovial fluid in patients with known types of arthritis.
Background: Persistent synovitis without known markers, such as Rheumatoid Factor (RF), Anti- Citrullinated Protein Antibodies (ACPA), and genetic markers as HLA-B27, is not uncommon. It is valuable to determine the presence of chronic inflammation and put it in correlation with agerelated changes, which are especially relevant for middle-aged patients with mono- or oligoarthritis, when the dilemma to start disease-modifying drugs for inflammatory disease often is present.
Through its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient Working Group (API-WG) the General European Official Medicines Control Laboratory (OMCL) Network (GEON), co-ordinated by the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM), regularly organises market surveillance studies for specific APIs for conformity to their monograph in the European Pharmacopoeia. During the past years some studies were combined with a fingerprint study of the APIs. The idea is to obtain a fingerprint for each manufacturer of the API under investigation, allowing the OMCL network to identify future samples as well as to detect substandard and falsified APIs.

There is a need for rapid, low-cost and efficient analytical techniques for monitoring the authenticity and geographical origin of Thai Hom Mali rice. In this study, two infrared spectroscopy techniques, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflection (FTIR-ATR) and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, were applied and compared for the differentiation of Thai Hom Mali rice from two geographical regions over two production years.

As existing animal models of CTEPH do not fully recapitulate complex disease pathophysiology, we report a new rat model for CTEPH evoked by repetitive embolization of the distal pulmonary artery branches with partially biodegradable alginate microspheres (MSs). MSs (180 ± 28 μm) were intravenously administered eight times at 4-day intervals; control animals received saline.

These studies are generally based on a combination of retrospective and prospective data collection over a defined period of time. This paper reports the results of the most recent study in this context with the focus on health products containing non-Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical-International Nonproprietary Name (ATC-INN) molecules.

Yet life-history traits are plastic: an organism can increase its growth rate to compensate for a period of slow growth, a phenomenon known as 'compensatory growth'. We tested whether larvae of the greater wax moth Galleria mellonella can accelerate their growth after a fast of 12, 24 or 72 h.

Stable carbon and hydrogen isotope compositions of n-alkane C29 show significant correlation with climatic parameters and are significantly more positive in olive oils from the southern compared with northern Mediterranean countries.

Robust analytical methodologies for organic food authentication are urgently needed. In this study a new approach, compound-specific nitrogen and oxygen isotope analysis of plant-derived nitrate, has been applied alongside bulk nitrogen isotope analysis for discrimination between organically and conventionally greenhouse-grown lettuce and retail potatoes and tomatoes.

Here we present the first study encompassing stable isotopes of hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, magnesium and sulphur as well as compound-specific nitrogen and oxygen isotope analysis of nitrate for discrimination of organically and conventionally grown plants. The study was based on wheat, barley, faba bean and potato produced in rigorously controlled long-term field trials comprising 144 experimental plots.

It becomes more and more difficult for dentists to recommend the best toothpaste and for patients to choose one. The objective of this paper was to draw out recommendations based on the best evidence available and to propose a new classification of toothpastes.

Design: A cross-sectional population-based study on 6932 participants from the Tromsø study, 1994-1995, and one validation study comparing six different serum 25(OH)D assays in 53 non-smokers and 54 smokers were performed.
Methods: The association between smoking, season and serum 25(OH)D as measured by ECLIA (Roche) was assessed in the population-based study using general linear models with multivariate adjustments.
Our two already established on-line 2-D LC systems, a strong cation exchange-RP chromatography (SCX-RP) system and a hydrophilic interaction LC (HILIC)-RP 2-D LC system, were compared to explore which system is best suited for our further studies of differences in cerebral neuropeptide expression as a function of hypoxia-caused stress. The same mass spectrometer and database search parameters were applied in both systems. In total, 19 first dimension fractions were collected with the novel on-line HILIC-RP system, including a Hypercarb SPE column that was applied to trap the compounds not retained on a Kromasil C18 enrichment column.

Animals of two different age groups (8 and 50 wk) were exposed to two different rates of CO(2 )in inhaled air to investigate the influence of different hypoxia/hypercapnia levels and their stress-related factor on the peptide excretion. Peptide compounds were fractionated (strong cation exchange chromatography), trapped, and separated (RP chromatography), and MS/MS mass spectra were used for identification.

A capillary two-dimensional liquid chromatography method coupled with ion trap mass spectrometry has been used for separation and identification of neuropeptides in rat rhinencephalon. Animals of three different age groups were exposed to slow and quick CO2 influx. The neuropeptides were extracted by solid phase extraction and the purified extracts were analysed by 2-D HPLC.

When using polysulfoethyl aspartamide, which is widely used as a strong cation exchange stationary phase in the first dimension, interfering peaks were observed in the second-dimension reversed-phase chromatograms. The observed peaks, found to be caused by column bleeding, had abundance above the threshold value and influenced the quality of the analyses.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA comprehensive two-dimensional capillary liquid chromatographic (2D LC) method has been established for determination of neuropeptides in rat brain tissue. Rats were exposed to different levels of stress before sacrificing and the aim of this study was to design a powerful separation and detection technique capable of characterizing differences between cerebral neuropeptide expression as a function of stress level. Rat brain samples were homogenized and subjected to clean-up by solid-phase extraction (SPE) on both a reversed-phase (C(18)) and a weak cation-exchange (CBA) cartridge.
