Background: A growing interest in using Nigella sativa oil (NSO) in the prevention or treatment of several cardiovascular diseases has prompted this study. The research aims to investigate the effect of NSO on cardiac damage prevention after long-term administration in induced myocardial infarction (MI) in rats.

Methods: NSO was analyzed for its fatty acids composition using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis and administered in rats before and after isoproterenol (45 mg/kg body weight) induced myocardial infarction.

A real problem of today's society is the loss of human lives due to road accidents and the pollution caused by freight transport through metropolitan areas. The restrictions imposed in the near future for freight transport could reduce its efficiency and create many more problems. Using data centralization and developing applications or algorithms dedicated to the freight transportation sectors, routes and emissions can be managed much more efficiently.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the toxicity profile of the hydroalcoholic extract from the leaves of Combretum micranthum (CM), which is traditionally used for treating various ailments in West Africa.
  • Researchers conducted acute and sub-chronic toxicity tests on rats to assess potential toxic effects, including behavioral changes and organ health.
  • Results showed no signs of toxicity or adverse effects at high doses, indicating that CM extract may not contain harmful compounds, specifically cyanide, based on Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry.

Nephrotoxicity is known to be a major complication during cisplatin chemotherapy in cancer patients. In the present study, the protective effect of a hydroalcoholic extract of Combretum micranthum (CM) against cisplatin (CP)-induced renal damage was evaluated using in-vitro human embryonic kidney (HEK)-293 cells and in-vivo experiments. Further, in-silico molecular docking and dynamic experiments were carried out with bioactive compounds of the title plant against nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the relationship between the timing of alpha-blocker medication (like tamsulosin) and complications during cataract surgery, particularly in terms of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome.
  • Conducted on 20 male Wistar rats, the experiment divided them into four groups with varying treatment regimens involving tamsulosin and assessed factors like pupil diameter and iris conditions during surgery.
  • Results showed that continuous tamsulosin treatment (Group 1) resulted in the smallest pupil size and highest instances of floppy iris and other complications compared to the control group, indicating timing of administration impacts surgical outcomes.
