Article Synopsis
  • - Resveratrol-piperazine cocrystals are synthesized using ultrasound and microwave-assisted methods to assess how these techniques affect cocrystal properties and their production scalability.
  • - The study finds that these methods reduce synthesis time significantly while achieving high purity and yields, with ultrasound reaction time positively influencing the cocrystal yield.
  • - The resulting cocrystals demonstrate promising solubility and antibacterial activity, suggesting their potential application in both human and veterinary medicine.

The 1:1 resveratrol-piperazine cocrystal was successfully synthesized and scaled-up to 300 g scale with the mechanochemical method, as a result of investigating key process parameters, namely the solvent and the grinding time. The use of water, ethanol or ethanol-water mixtures and reaction times up to 50 min were evaluated relative to the dry grinding process. Cocrystal formation and purity were monitored through X-ray diffraction and calorimetry measurements.

Objective: To present an alternative surgical technique in treating cases of Chiari I Malformation with mild-to-moderate syringomyelia after decompressive suboccipital craniectomy: incising only the outer layer of the dura mater, then dissecting it from the inner layer without opening the latter.

Patients And Methods: We utilized this technique in a short series of three cases who were admitted to our department for mild symptoms such as intermittent headache and dissociated sensory loss in the upper limbs, caused by a Chiari Malformation Type I. The patients were placed in the sitting position.

Crystal structures of Tadalafil (TDF) monosolvated forms with acetone (ACE) and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction in which same persistent chains of TDF molecules are present as in the reported structures. The solvates crystallize in a higher orthorhombic symmetry than the known forms with monoclinic structures. Weak interactions between TDF and solvent molecules are present in both solvates, leading to slight conformational distortions of TDF molecules.

The crystal structures of the monohydrate and anhydrous forms of ambazone were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD). Ambazone monohydrate is characterized by an infinite three-dimensional network involving the water molecules, whereas anhydrous ambazone forms a two-dimensional network via hydrogen bonds. The reversible transformation between the monohydrate and anhydrous forms of ambazone was evidenced by thermal analysis, temperature-dependent X-ray powder diffraction and accelerated stability at elevated temperature, and relative humidity (RH).

Article Synopsis
  • The salt C(14)H(31)N(2)(+)·C(15)H(9)O(7)(-) was created by reacting quercetin with n-butyl-amine in acetone and hexane.
  • The crystal structure reveals that quercetin contributes a hydrogen atom to the nitrogen in the n-butyl-amine compound, leading to stability through various types of hydrogen bonding.
  • Quercetin molecules form dimers that connect into a two-dimensional network, with a noted dihedral angle of 19.61° between their ring systems.

The crystal structure of the inclusion complex of β-cyclodextrin with lipoic acid was determined from laboratory powder diffraction data. Thermogravimetric data was used to estimate the number of water molecules in the crystal structure. Lipoic acid is included in β-cyclodextrin through its primary face with the five-membered ring reaching the center plane of the cyclodextrin cavity and its fatty acid chain adopting a bent conformation.

The crystal structure of the inclusion complex of beta-cyclo-dextrin with mefenamic acid has been determined from a combination of high-resolution synchrotron powder-diffraction data and molecular-mechanics calculations. A grid search indicates two possible solutions, which are corroborated by molecular-mechanics calculations, while Rietveld-refinement results suggest the crystal structure that is more likely to be formed in the solid state. Mefenamic acid is partially included in beta-cyclodextrin with either the xylyl or the benzoic-acid moiety being inside its cavity.
