View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe objective of this work was to develop a sustainable process for the extraction of anthocyanins from red cabbage byproducts using, for the first time, apple vinegar in extractant composition. Our results showed that the mixture 50% (/) ethanol-water, acidified with apple vinegar, used in the proportion of 25 g of red cabbage by-products per 100 mL of solvent, was the best solvent for the preparation of an anthocyanin extract with good stability for food applications. The chemical characterization of this extract was performed by FTIR, UV-VIS, HPLC-DAD, and ICP-OES.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe ionic association constants of sodium with carbonate ion (K1C') and acidic carbonate ions (K2C') were measured in NaCl-NaHCO-HO ternary systems to determine the distribution of sodium among the chemical species present in the growth medium of algae. The mean activity coefficients of sodium chloride (in pure sodium chloride and in a mixture of electrolytes) were determined experimentally using two electrochemical cells, namely Ag, AgCl| KCl (3 M)|| NHNO (1 M)| NaCl (mNaCl)| Na-ISE and Ag, AgCl|KCl (3 M)|| NHNO (1 M)| NaCl (mNaCl)| Cl-ISE. The studies carried out show that the values of the association constants of K1C' and K2C' do not depend on the composition of the medium, but only on the effective ionic strength.

Structural and morphological analysis, such as Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, environmental scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller technique were used in order to investigate the decoration of the nanotubes with NPs. Analysis of the decorated nanotubes showed a narrow size distribution of NPs, 7-13 nm for the nanotubes decorated with zinc oxide (ZnO) NPs, 15-33 nm for the nanotubes decorated with silver (Ag) NPs and 20-35 nm for the nanotubes decorated with hydroxyapatite (HAp) NPs, respectively.
