Unlabelled: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumours are rare lesions that could occur in airways. We report a 10 years old male who complains about dyspnea after physical exercise. Making CT and RMI images and a biopsy, we make an accurate diagnosis of an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour ALK+.

Lipoma Of The Internal Auditory Canal: An Uncommon Cause Of Unilateral Deafness And Dizziness.

Unlabelled: Lipomas inside the internal auditory canal are infrequent. We describe a 43 years old woman who complains about sudden unilateral deafness, tinnitus and dizziness. With CT and RMN we make a certain diagnosis of lipoma inside the internal auditory canal.

Isolation of Ovicidal Fungi from Fecal Samples of Captive Animals Maintained in a Zoological Park.

There are certain saprophytic fungi in the soil able to develop an antagonistic effect against eggs of parasites. Some of these fungal species are ingested by animals during grazing, and survive in their feces after passing through the digestive tract. To identify and isolate ovicidal fungi in the feces of wild captive animals, a total of 60 fecal samples were taken from different wild animals kept captive in the Marcelle Natureza Zoological Park (Lugo, Spain).

Risk factors of non-tuberculous mycobacterial lymphadenitis in children: a case-control study.

Unlabelled: The aim of the present study is to clarify the association between environmental exposures and non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lymphadenitis, during the last decade, in a population of children. In children up to 14 years of age in a pediatric tertiary hospital, all cases of NTM lymphadenopathy with a specific microbiological diagnosis, from January 2004 to January 2015, were reviewed. This is a case-control study (1:5 proportion), in which the prevalence of environmental factors between cases and controls was compared by means of a multivariate logistic regression analysis.

Analysis of the effect of soil saprophytic fungi on the eggs of Baylisascaris procyonis.

Baylisascaris procyonis is a soil-transmitted helminth mainly found in raccoons (Procyon lotor) which can also affect other domestic and sylvatic animals, as well as humans, when the eggs released in the feces of parasitized raccoons are accidentally ingested. Mixed production of filamentous fungal spores for preventing soil-transmitted helminth zoonoses: a preliminary analysis.

Helminth zoonoses are parasitic infections shared by humans and animals, being the soil-transmitted helminths (STHs) mainly caused by roundworms (ascarids) and hookworms. This study was aimed to assess the individual and/or mixed production of two helminth-antagonistic fungi, one ovicide (Mucor circinelloides) and other predator (Duddingtonia flagrans). Fungi were grown both in Petri plates and in a submerged culture (composed by water, NaCl, Na2HPO4 · 12 H2O, and wheat (Triticum aestivum)).

[Aetiology and diagnosis of community acquired pneumonia and its complicated forms].

Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) is a common childhood disease, involving several paediatric subspecialties in its diagnosis and treatment. This has prompted the Spanish Society of Paediatric Pulmonology (SENP) and the Spanish Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases (SEIP) to prepare a consensus document on the diagnosis of CAP, assessing the practical aspects by means of evidence-based medicine. It discusses the aetiology and epidemiology, with the current changes and the validity of certain laboratory tests, such as acute phase reactants, microbiological and imaging techniques, guiding the paediatricians in the real value of these tests.

[Secretory lysosome disorders in the immune synapse and other tissues].

Introduction: Haemophagocytic syndrome (HS) is a common manifestation of several congenital disorders characterised by a disruption of lysosomal secretion, interrupting the cytolytic pathway and triggering a dysfunction in the immune synapse. In this situation, the recognition of certain extra-immunological manifestations may help in the diagnostic process.

Patients And Methods: We describe the clinical and biological features present in two brothers with familial haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis type 3 (FHL-3), two patients with Griscelli syndrome type 2 (GS-2) and one patient with Chédiak-Higashi syndrome (CHS).

[Pneumonitis in elderly patient with ANCA-positive glomerulonephritis during treatment with cyclophosphamide].

A 78 year-old woman with extracapillary glomerulonephritis was treated with cyclophosphamide and corticosteroids. Three months after starting the therapy, the patient had an episode with breathlessness, cough and sputum without fever. X-ray showed bilateral interstitial infiltrates.

[Tuberculosis due to Mycobacterium bovis in Murcia].

Tuberculosis due to Mycobacterium bovis is a common disease in developing countries, due to its reservoir and most common forms of transmission. Extrapulmonary cases are not uncommon. This fact and the exceptional nature of this mycobacterium, make the diagnosis difficult in our environment.

[Conjunctival infection due to penicillium SP].

Clinical Case: We present a case of conjunctivitis in a diabetic patient in whom not improvement was observed after empiric treatment, and finally developed a conjunctival granuloma. Culture of the conjunctival exudate and histological examination of the conjunctival biopsy confirmed the infection by Penicillium sp. The antifungical treatment (local and systemic) improved signs and symtoms gradually.

Clear lens extraction and implantation of negative-power posterior chamber intraocular lenses to correct extreme myopia.

Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness, predictability, and safety of clear lens extraction to correct extreme myopia.

Setting: Clinica de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, Fundación Jiménez Díaz, Madrid, Spain.

Methods: This retrospective study comprised 26 eyes of 17 highly myopic patients who had clear lens extraction and implantation of a negative-power posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL).

Clinical management of hyperglycaemic patients receiving total parenteral nutrition.

We evaluated the course of total parenteral nutrition (TPN) therapy in patients with hyperglycaemia. We studied 1) incidence of hyperglycaemia, 2) amount of glucose and insulin provided and 3) incidence of metabolic problems in patients receiving TPN who required insulin to attain metabolic control. The group included 91 patients, 38 women (64 +/- 15 years) and 53 men (64 +/- 12 years), who developed glycaemia higher than 200 mg/dl.
