Pseudomonas putida as a platform for the synthesis of aromatic compounds.

Aromatic compounds such as l-phenylalanine, 2-phenylethanol and trans-cinnamate are aromatic compounds of industrial interest. Current trends support replacement of chemical synthesis of these compounds by 'green' alternatives produced in microbial cell factories. Scedosporium apiospermum and S. prolificans mixed disseminated infection in a lung transplant recipient: An unusual case of long-term survival with combined systemic and local antifungal therapy in intensive care unit.

Infections due Scedosporium spp. in lung transplant recipients are associated with disseminated disease with high mortality rates. The adjunctive local antifungal therapy may be a useful option when systemic treatment is insufficient and/or surgery is not feasible.

Benefits and perspectives on the use of biofuels.

The current primary obstacle to biofuels is the current low price of fossil fuels, and the primary incentive to 2G biofuels is the growing world population and need to increase food suplies. Both of these will be increasingly subject to political, regulatory and legislative changes that will be positive for 2G biofuels.

Emergence of linezolid-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci in an intensive care unit.

Background: The aim of this study was to report the emergence of linezolid-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) in an intensive care unit.

Methods: An observational study was conducted in critically ill patients with colonization or infection by linezolid-resistant CoNS between January 2010 and December 2014. We analyzed the epidemiological and clinical features, and the mechanism of resistance to linezolid.

Association of C4d deposition with clinical outcomes in IgA nephropathy.

Background And Objectives: Several studies have suggested that activation of the complement system is a contributing pathogenic mechanism in IgA nephropathy (IgAN). C4d staining is an inexpensive and easy-to-perform method for the analysis of renal biopsies. This study aimed to assess the clinical and prognostic implications of C4d staining in IgAN.
