The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and, in particular, machine learning (ML) techniques is growing rapidly in the healthcare field. Their application in pharmacokinetics is of potential interest due to the need to relate enormous amounts of data and to the more efficient development of new predictive dose models. The development of pharmacokinetic models based on these techniques simplifies the process, reduces time, and allows more factors to be considered than with classical methods, and is therefore of special interest in the pharmacokinetic monitoring of antibiotics.

Cysteamine, an aminothiol, is the only available treatment for cystinosis, an incurable metabolic recessive disease characterized by detrimental symptoms at the renal, ocular, and muscular levels. Cystinosis is due to mutations in the CTNS gene encoding for the lysosomal symporter cystinosine. Cysteamine treatment only delays the symptoms, presents undesirable side effects and the patients depend on it for life.

Method: Eye drops were compounded in triplicate with 100 IU/mL Actrapid®  insulin and either normal saline or a balanced salt solution as vehicles, and  they were stored alternatively at room temperature (25 °C), in a refrigerator  (2-8 °C) or in a freezer (-20 °C) for 120 days. Background: the present work describes the preparation, characterization and optimization of eight types of PLGA-based nanosystems (nanospheres and nanocapsules) as innovative mucoadhesive drug delivery systems of lactoferrin, in order to achieve a preclinical consistent base as an alternative pharmacological treatment to different ocular syndromes and diseases.

Biodegradable poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) microspheres (PLGA MSs) are attractive delivery systems for site-specific maintained release of therapeutic active substances into the intravitreal chamber. The design, development, and characterization of idebenone-loaded PLGA microspheres by means of an oil-in-water emulsion/solvent evaporation method enabled the obtention of appropriate production yield, encapsulation efficiency and loading values.
