Disrupted feeding and fasting cycles as well as chronic high fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity are associated with cardiovascular disease risk factors. We designed studies that determined whether two weeks of time-restricted feeding (TRF) intervention in mice fed a chronic HFD would reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors. Mice were fed a normal diet (ND; 10% fat) ad libitum or HFD (45% fat) for 18 weeks ad libitum to establish diet-induced obesity.

Background: Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) product characteristics are not well established. The aim of this study was to compare mononuclear cells (MNCs) collection using the new Amicus blue (AB) In-line ECP system to our standard Off-line ECP system using the Optia apheresis device and the MacoGenic G2 inactivation system (OM).

Study Design And Methods: We assessed the ECP products and procedure parameters, patient characteristics, and adverse events for both AB and OM systems in paired patients.

However, the mechanisms leading to relapse in adults are poorly understood. Forty-four adult B-ALL patients were studied at both diagnosis and relapse by next-generation sequencing (NGS).

Epigenetic memory of temperature sensed during somatic embryo maturation in 2-year-old maritime pine trees.

Embryogenesis is a brief but potentially critical phase in the tree life cycle for adaptive phenotypic plasticity. Using somatic embryogenesis in maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Ait.), we found that temperature during the maturation phase affects embryo development and post-embryonic tree growth for up to three years.

The overestimation of the effect sizes of psychotherapies for depression in waitlist controlled trials: a meta-analytic comparison with usual care controlled trials.

Aims: There is considerable evidence that waiting list (WL) control groups overestimate the effect sizes of psychotherapies for depression. It is not clear, however, what are the exact causes for this overestimation. We decided to conduct a meta-analytic study to compare trials on psychotherapy for depression with a WL control group against trials with a care-as-usual (CAU) control group.

PrEPárate: Evaluation of a Community-Driven PrEP Social Marketing Intervention Tailored to Latino/a/x Individuals.

Latino/a/x sexual minority men (SMM) and transgender women remain disproportionately impacted by HIV, with higher HIV incidence and lower uptake of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) than their non-Hispanic White peers. Disparities in PrEP uptake among Latino/a/x populations have been found to be due to structural, social, and personal barriers. Social marketing interventions have been shown to effectively address barriers and increase PrEP uptake in other populations, and thus offer potential as a tool to increase PrEP uptake for Latino/a/x populations.

Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is a common complication following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) and in patients receiving novel hematological therapies. Its impact on morbidity and mortality necessitates effective management strategies. Despite recent advances in diagnostics and treatment, unresolved questions persist regarding monitoring and treatment, prompting the need for updated recommendations.

The role of intraverbal bidirectional naming in the establishment of comparative relations.

The purpose of the current study was to extend the research on the possible role of verbal mediation in the establishment of comparative relations. We conducted four experiments in which 14 participants received conditional discrimination training with nonarbitrary and arbitrary stimuli, followed by derived comparative and transformation of function tests. Participants learned to select the smallest or biggest comparison across multiple exemplars in the presence of abstract samples.

Chronic mistimed feeding results in renal fibrosis and disrupted circadian blood pressure rhythms.

Circadian disruption is a disturbance in biological timing, which can occur within or between different organizational levels, ranging from molecular rhythms within specific cells to the misalignment of behavioral and environmental cycles. Previous work from our group showed that less than 1 wk of food restriction to the light (inactive) period is sufficient to invert diurnal blood pressure rhythms in mice. However, kidney excretory rhythms and functions remained aligned with the light-dark cycle.

Cutting Edge: Low-dose Recombinant IL-2 Treatment Prevents Autoantibody Responses in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus via Regulatory T Cell-independent Depletion of T Follicular Helper Cells.

The expansion of T follicular helper (Tfh) cells correlates with disease progression in human and murine systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Unfortunately, there are no therapies to deplete Tfh cells. Importantly, low-dose rIL-2-based immunotherapy shows potent immunosuppressive effects in SLE patients and lupus-prone mice, primarily attributed to the expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs).

Correspondence Between Vocal-Verbal Behavior and Go/No-Go Responses During the Successive Matching-to-Sample Procedure.

In the current study, eight college students were exposed to a successive matching-to-sample (S-MTS) procedure utilizing non-verbal auditory stimuli consisting of common sounds. During emergent relations tests, participants were asked to talk aloud, and their vocal-verbal statements were transcribed and categorized as class-consistent, class-inconsistent, or irrelevant. All participants met emergence criterion for symmetry and four did so for transitivity/equivalence.

Although feedback is a widely used intervention for improving performance, it is unclear what characteristics individuals prefer and what is necessary for it to be effective. The purpose of this study was to systematically extend Simonian and Brand (2022) by addressing the limitations of the study and adding a best-treatment phase. During an acquisition phase, participants received either positive, corrective, or no feedback upon task completion.

Impact of a multi-disciplinary team-based care model for patients living with diabetes on health outcomes: a mixed-methods study.

Background: Individuals facing socioeconomic hardship experience higher than average rates of chronic disease, such as diabetes, with less access to evidence-based treatment. One solution to address these inequities is a team-based care (TBC) model, defined as one in which at least two providers work collaboratively with a patient and their caregiver(s) to make healthcare decisions. This paper seeks to describe the implementation of a TBC model within a safety-net healthcare setting and determine the extent to which it can be an effective, patient-centered approach to treating individuals with diabetes.

The efficacy of psychotherapy for social anxiety disorder, a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Given the growth in research examining the effects of psychotherapy on social anxiety disorder (SAD), an up-to-date comprehensive meta-analysis in this field is needed.

Methods: We selected studies from a database of randomized trials (RCTs) on psychotherapies for anxiety disorders (last updated search of PubMed, PsycINFO, Embase, and Cochrane (CENTRAL): 1 January 2024) We included RCTs comparing psychotherapy to a control condition for adults with SAD and conducted random effects meta-analyses to examine the efficacy of psychotherapy compared to control conditions at post-treatment.

Results: Sixty-six RCTs were included with 5560 participants and 98 comparisons between psychotherapy and control groups.

Evaluation of the feasibility for replacing sheep blood with human blood in culture media used in microbiological diagnostics.

The present study aimed to suggest the replacement of animal blood with human blood in culture media, involving alternative methods and ethical considerations, such as animal welfare, in addition to potential laboratory cost reduction. Characteristics of growth and hemolysis development were compared in different culture media, using both sheep blood and human blood. Blood types from the ABO blood group system were tested, and commercially acquired sheep blood agar was used for comparison.
