Background: The pandemic caused by SARS-CoV2 has had a huge impact on our health system. Due to both cancellation of elective surgery and restructuring in departments at most medical centers, surgical residents face a potential training deficit in their specialty.This study aims to objectively analyze and quantify the impact of the pandemic on the surgical activity of residents, in the setting of emergency and elective surgery, to assess whether this period has really supposed a training deficit.

In low- and middle-income countries, the management of thyroid disease, which is commonplace in fully developed countries, is not always possible. The work presented here reports the first study in which the speciation, behaviour and fate of mercury (Hg) have been evaluated under oxy-fuel combustion at the largest oxy-Pulverised Coal Combustion (oxy-PCC) demonstration plant to date during routine operating conditions and partial exhaust flue gas re-circulation to the boiler. The effect of the CO2-rich flue gas re-circulation on Hg has also been evaluated. Results reveal that oxy-PCC operational conditions play a significant role on Hg partitioning and fate because of the continuous CO2-rich flue gas re-circulations to the boiler.

Background: Thoracoscopic bilateral sympathicolysis of the T3 sympathetic ganglia is an effective treatment for palmar hyperhidrosis, though not without potential complications and consequences such as Horner's syndrome. The objective of our study is to evaluate the repercussion of T3 sympathetic denervation on pupillary tone in patients with primary hyperhidrosis.

Methods: A prospective descriptive study of 25 patients (50 pupils) ranging in age from 18 to 40 years with an indication of T3 sympathectomy for palmar hyperhidrosis or palmar-plantar hyperhidrosis from 1 December 2009 to 31 December 2010 was carried out.
