Introduction: A significant percentage of patients coinfected with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis D virus (HDV) are undiagnosed. Coinfected patients progress to advanced liver disease faster than HBV monoinfected patients, thereby consuming more healthcare resources. The aim was to perform an analysis to determine the cost of hidden HDV infection in Spain.

  • Many individuals with Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections are unaware of their conditions, especially vulnerable populations who struggle with access to healthcare; emergency departments often serve as their only healthcare point of contact.
  • A study conducted in emergency departments tested over 17,500 adults for HBsAg and HCV antibodies, discovering a higher prevalence than in the general population, with a significant percentage of positive cases previously unaware of their infections and successfully linking many to care.
  • The screening program demonstrated cost-effectiveness, notably in individuals aged 40-70 with HCV, suggesting that emergency department screenings could improve health outcomes and provide a cost-efficient intervention for viral hepatitis.

CHD is underdiagnosed, and this study aimed to assess the impact of hepatitis D reflex testing in HBsAg-positive individuals in Spain over the next 8 years. Two scenarios were compared: the current situation (7.

Objective: To determine the economic impact of the incremental consumption of resources for the diagnosis and treatment of anastomotic leak (AL) in patients after resection with anastomosis for colorectal cancer compared to patients without AL on the Spanish health system.

Method: This study included a literature review with parameters validated by experts and the development of a cost analysis model to estimate the incremental resource consumption of patients with AL versus those without. The patients were divided into three groups: 1) colon cancer (CC) with resection, anastomosis and AL; 2) rectal cancer (RC) with resection, anastomosis without protective stoma and AL; and 3) RC with resection, anastomosis with protective stoma and AL.

The Spanish Society of Digestive Pathology (SEPD), the Spanish Association for the Study of the Liver (AEEH), the Spanish Society of Infections and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC) and its Viral Hepatitis Study Group (GEHEP), and with the endorsement of the Alliance for the Elimination of Viral Hepatitis in Spain (AEHVE), have agreed on a document to carry out a comprehensive diagnosis of viral hepatitis (B, C and D), from a single blood sample; that is, a comprehensive diagnosis, in the hospital and/or at the point of care of the patient. We propose an algorithm, so that the positive result in a viral hepatitis serology (B, C and D), as well as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), would trigger the analysis of the rest of the virus, including the viral load when necessary, in the same blood draw. In addition, we make two additional recommendations.

Reaction of an amido pincer complex [(CNC)*Rh(CO)] () (CNC* is the deprotonated form of CNC) with carbon dioxide gave a neutral complex [(CNC-CO)*Rh(CO)] (), which is the result of a C-C bond-forming reaction between the deprotonated arm of the CNC* ligand and CO. The molecular structure of showed a zwitterionic complex, where the CO moiety is covalently connected to the former ═CH arm of the CNC* pincer ligand. The unusual structure of allowed us to explore the reactivity of the CO moiety with selected primary amines RNH (benzylamine and ammonia), which afforded cationic complexes [(CNC)Rh(CO)][HRNC()O] (R = Bz (), H ()).
