Background: In chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, increased levels of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) are associated with cardiovascular mortality. The relationship between FGF23 and heart hypertrophy has been documented, however, it is not known whether FGF23 has an effect on vasculature. Vascular smooth muscle cells VSMCs may exhibit different phenotypes; our hypothesis is that FGF23 favours a switch from a contractile to synthetic phenotype that may cause vascular dysfunction.

Background: In dialysis patients, non-adherence to oral cinacalcet adds complexity to the control of secondary hyperparathyroidism. The present study aims to evaluate the use of intravenous calcimimetic, etelcalcetide, in the control of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients adherent and non-adherent to oral calcimimetics.

Method: The Simplified Medication Adherence Questionnaire was used to identify non-adherence.

Unlabelled: The management of infants under 2 months of age presenting with fever has perplexed pediatricians for decades. The University of Illinois at Chicago was selected as one of the primary sites for the REVISE (Reducing Variation in Infant Sepsis Evaluations) study through the American Academy of Pediatrics. Our primary objective was to decrease the length of stay (LOS) for well-appearing febrile infants by 20% over 8 months from December 2016 to August 2017.

The EU implemented the Market Stability Reserve (MSR) in response to the 2008 financial crisis to deal with short-term impacts of future shocks, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. We link a model that intertemporally optimizes the handling of banked allowances every five years with one that simulates the annual working of the EU ETS including the MSR with its potential cancelling. Neglecting the pandemic, 2.

Emesis is a common presentation in children. Many diagnostic considerations need to be made in a child with emesis and no diarrhea, particularly if lasting longer than 24 hours. The differential diagnosis includes trauma, increased intracranial pressure, obstruction, and metabolic abnormalities such as diabetic ketoacidosis.

The use of alternative types of wood has arisen for the aging of the Brandy de Jerez, on a pilot plant level. In particular, besides the use of American oak, two more types of oak have been studied, French oak and Spanish oak, allowed by the Technical File for the ID Brandy de Jerez, and chestnut, which, though it is not officially allowed, is a type of wood which had been traditionally used in the area for the aging of wines and distillates. All of them have been studied with different toasting levels: Intense toasting and medium toasting.

Although sudden cardiac death (SCD) is one of the most important modes of death in Western countries, pathologists and public health physicians have not given this problem the attention it deserves. New methods of preventing potentially fatal arrhythmias have been developed and the accurate diagnosis of the causes of SCD is now of particular importance. Pathologists are responsible for determining the precise cause and mechanism of sudden death but there is still considerable variation in the way in which they approach this increasingly complex task.

The eTUMOUR (eT) multi-centre project gathered in vivo and ex vivo magnetic resonance (MR) data, as well as transcriptomic and clinical information from brain tumour patients, with the purpose of improving the diagnostic and prognostic evaluation of future patients. In order to carry this out, among other work, a database--the eTDB--was developed. In addition to complex permission rules and software and management quality control (QC), it was necessary to develop anonymization, processing and data visualization tools for the data uploaded.

The incidence of corneal infections among the almost 20 million Americans who wear contact lenses, while still small, is rising rapidly. Patient non-compliance with instructions for proper lens care is partly at fault. The general phenomenon of patient non-compliance has been widely studied, most often by using the Health Belief Model (HBM).

A randomized, crossover study comparing the acceptance of and attitudes towards two dosage forms of the same oral contraceptive product - a paper presentation and the conventional tablet, was carried out in a network of rural and suburban research centers in the State of Durango, México. The results failed to show any significant advantage (in terms of acceptability or continuation) of the paper formulation. Although two-thirds of the participants indicated a preference for the conventional tablet, there was a high degree of acceptance of the paper formulation among new oral contraceptive acceptors.
