We study partitions (equitable, externally equitable, or other) of graphs that describe physico-chemical systems at the atomic or molecular level; provide examples that show how these partitions are intimately related with symmetries of the systems; and discuss how such a link can further lead to insightful relations with the systems' physical and chemical properties. We define a particular kind of graph partition, which we call Chemical Equitable Partition (CEP), accounting for chemical composition as well as connectivity and associate it with a quantitative measure of information reduction that accompanies its derivation. These concepts are applied to model molecular and crystalline solid systems, illustrating their potential as a means to classify atoms according to their chemical or crystallographic role.

In comparison, literature reports on the impact of modified forms of DON and ZEN, such as de-epoxy-DON (DOM-1) and hydrolyzed ZEN (HZEN), on swine reproduction are scarce. The aim of our study was to compare the effects of DON, DOM-1, ZEN and HZEN on boar semen in vitro.

Sixty-five ejaculates were used and 468 sows (parity ≥ 2) were inseminated. Sperm CASA kinetics, morphology, viability, DNA fragmentation, mitochondrial membrane potential, sperm membrane biochemical activity (HOST) and sperm proteins (Heat Shock Protein 90-HSP90, glutathione peroxidase-5-GPX5, Osteopontin 70-OPN70) were assessed and related to field fertility (number of live-born piglets-NLBP, litter size ≥ 12 piglets-LS, farrowing rate-FR).

A skim milk extender without antibiotics was used as a diluent of 21 ejaculates (8 rams; 2-3 ejaculates/ram). The groups of control (C; semen without NPs), Fe NPs (3.

Kinematic and kinetic gait analysis of level walking was performed in 15 patients (eight female and seven male) with knee ostoarthritis. All patients were free of any neurological diseases that could affect their normal gait.

Three trials per year's period (hot, medium, cold) were carried out. Only large size follicles (6-8mm) were aspirated, brilliant cresyl blue (BCB) test was performed and only the BCB+ oocytes were in vitro maturated (40h) and involved to ICSI process.

The unique sets of bone and soft tissue abnormalities that must be addressed at the time of the operation make accurate axis restoration, component orientation and joint stability attainment a difficult task. Understanding the specific pathologic anatomic changes associated with the valgus knee is a prerequisite so as to select the proper surgical method, to optimize component position and restore soft-tissue balance.

The zeolite membrane was demonstrated to be an efficient ion exchange membrane in vanadium redox flow batteries.

The infirmary as we know it today did not exist during antiquity, but the different precursors of the modern hospital emerged as a result of the interaction between medical theory and practice. During antiquity the Hippocratic work decisively contributed to the creation of the Asklipieion, an institution with predetermined structure created to heal diseases.

This report presents a case of a subcutaneous pretibial ganglion with direct communication to the tibial tunnel, after ACL reconstruction with a quadrupled hamstrings tendon autograft, in a 26-year-old Caucasian male. The hamstrings tendon graft was fixed to the tibia using a 9-mm poly-L-lactide interference screw, 4 years earlier.

Total hip joint arthroplasty is being performed in an increasing number of younger patients; therefore orthopaedic surgeons seek implants with a longer life span. With regards to the progress of mechanical behaviour of the biomaterials used in an arthroplasty, little is known about the long-term biological effects of wear debris.

There are several total knee arthroplasty designs available with wide variation in features. The long-term results of total knee replacement with a fixed bearing design have shown a high degree of clinical success. However, implant loosening and polyethylene wear became recognized as long-term causes of late failure.

Unlabelled: We present a rare case of fracture of the modular femoral component in a varus-valgus constrained total knee arthroplasty (TKA) prosthesis which occurred 2 years after implantation. Both femoral and tibial components underwent a second revision using a constrained hinged TKA. Laboratory analysis revealed insufficient metaphyseal bone stock in association with inadequate cement mantle incorporation which made implant fixation solely reliant on the intramedullary stem construct.

The purpose of this study was to determine which approach is optimal in these patients, by comparing the standard medial parapatellar approach to a lateral parapatellar combined with a tibial tubercle osteotomy (TTO).
Methods: Forty-four valgus knees--with an axis deviation ranging from 15 to 36 degrees (mean 24°)--were dealt with primary TKA and followed up for a minimum period of 7 years.
The objective of this study was to capture and analyze the kinetics and kinematics and determine the functional performance of the osteoarthritic knee after a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) retaining total knee arthroplasty. Kinematic and kinetic gait analysis of level walking was performed in 20 subjects (12 female and 8 male) with knee ostoarthritis. These patients were free of any neurological diseases that could affect their normal gait.

Severely deformed valgus knees represent a surgical challenge. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the results of TKA in grade II and III valgus knee deformities (Ranawat classification), focusing on axis correction, by using a lateral parapatellar capsulotomy combined with tibial tubercle osteotomy.

We report 2 cases of missed posterior dislocation of the shoulder, 1 of them bilateral. Prominence of the acromion and coracoid, posterior bulging and complete elimination of external rotation of the humerus lead to the diagnosis which was established by an axillary radiographic view. All 3 shoulders were treated surgically according to Mc Laughlin.
