Indication criteria for tonsillectomy in IgA nephropathy patients.

- Proposed criteria for tonsillectomy in patients with IgA nephropathy require a confirmed diagnosis through renal biopsy and specific renal pathology grades.
- Surgery is recommended for patients with mild to moderate renal issues (grade I-III) and lower serum creatinine levels, but can be considered for more severe cases (grade IV) if safe and with patient consent.
- Additional indications include worsened urine findings during tonsillitis and specific local tonsil findings, although these are less established compared to the primary criteria.
Objective: Adenocarcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma is a rare tumor, and thus the management of the tumor has not been established.
Methods: The retrospective review of the clinical records at Okayama University was performed.
Results: We present five cases of adenocarcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma of the head and neck, including a rare case with nasopharyngeal adenocarcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma.

- IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is a common kidney disease characterized by IgA deposits, and a study was conducted on 71 patients over 10 years to assess the impact of tonsillectomy.
- The study included two groups: 41 patients who underwent tonsillectomy and 30 who did not, with differences in their age at biopsy and follow-up periods.
- Results showed better outcomes in the tonsillectomy group, indicating higher clinical remission rates, stable renal function, and significantly better renal survival compared to the non-surgical group.
Otitis media with effusion (OME) is one of the most common ear diseases. Bacterial endotoxins and several inflammatory cytokines appear to be involved in the pathogenesis of OME in children; however, little is known of the immunological aspects of the onset of OME in adults. We sought to determine the presence of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) as well as interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), RANTES (regulated upon activation, normal T-cell expressed and presumably secreted), and endotoxin in middle ear effusions (MEEs) from adult patients with OME.
