In a previous study, we developed a classification model to detect fall risk for elderly adults with a history of falls (fallers) using micro-Doppler radar (MDR) gait measurements via simulation. The objective was to create daily monitoring systems that can identify elderly people with a high risk of falls. Our Doppler radar system remotely measured the kinematic parameters of the movements of 78 community-dwelling elderly adults (27 apathetic participants and 51 non-apathetic ones). Subsequently, logistic regression models using the measured kinematic parameters of gait and sit-to-stand/stand-to-sit movements were constructed for screening.

Because HL-IADLs are useful for evaluating the degree of disability and cognitive decline in daily life, this study aims to develop a system that enables the identification of individuals with HL-IADL impairments in an unconstrained manner. The study participants were elderly adults of age 65-74 years of rural communities in Japan, and their motion parameters in natural STSTS were extracted via a single 24-GHz MDR installed on the ceiling.
