Efficient operating room management is essential and requires precise surgery scheduling. We hypothesized that an estimation formula for the preparation time for anesthesia induction and surgery could be developed by incorporating anesthesia and surgical factors, as well as the 'clinical department,' into the formula. This retrospective observational study analyzed 12,528 scheduled surgical cases.

Prevention of Postoperative Skin Disorders and Pressure Injuries in the Neurosurgical Park Bench Position Surgery: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Background In neurosurgical procedures where the park bench position is employed, the risk of perioperative pressure injuries is elevated due to the limited contact surface area, with the head and part of the upper torso extending beyond the surgical table. This study aimed to examine the effects of preventative measures against such injuries, proposing a potential standard for postural fixation in these surgeries. Methods Conducted at a medical center, from January 2017 to March 2023, this prospective cohort study involved participants aged 20 and above who underwent neurosurgical procedures in the park bench position under general anesthesia.

Relationship between perfusion index and central temperature before and after induction of anesthesia in laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery: A prospective cohort study.

The perfusion index (PI) cutoff value before anesthesia induction and the ratio of PI variation after anesthesia induction remain unclear. This study aimed to clarify the relationship between PI and central temperature during anesthesia induction, and the potential of PI in individualized and effective control of redistribution hypothermia. This prospective observational single center study analyzed 100 gastrointestinal surgeries performed under general anesthesia from August 2021 to February 2022.

In this study, we evaluated the effects of Lactobacillus-containing feminine hygiene products on vaginal microbiome and genitourinary symptoms in pre- and postmenopausal women.

Age-Related Changes, Influencing Factors, and Crosstalk Between Vaginal and Gut Microbiota: A Cross-Sectional Comparative Study of Pre- and Postmenopausal Women.

The ideal vaginal environment is maintained by species, which keep the vagina clean and free of infections, boost fertility and immunity. Age-related decline in estrogen affects population, leading to dominance of nonoptimal species and increased diversity in vaginal microbiota. In this study, we compared the differences between the vaginal microbiota of pre- and postmenopausal women.

Effect of intraoperative operating table rotation on lower limb perfusion index in patients in the lithotomy position.

We focused on "returning to the horizontal position," one of the measures for preventing well leg compartment syndrome implemented at our hospital, and aimed to clarify the effect of intraoperative positional changes by operating table rotation on blood perfusion in the lower extremities during lithotomy in patients under general anesthesia. This prospective observational study examined 64 patients scheduled to undergo general anesthesia in the lithotomy position from March 2021 to May 2022. The primary endpoint was the perfusion index (PI) of the lower limb before and after operating table rotation.

Association between preoperative toe perfusion index and maternal core temperature decrease during cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia: a prospective cohort study.

Background: The main mechanism of body temperature decrease during cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia is core-to-peripheral redistribution of body heat, attributable to vasodilation. Perfusion index (PI) obtained with a pulse oximeter helps to assess peripheral perfusion dynamics by detecting the change in peripheral vascular tone. This study aimed to examine whether preoperative toe PI could predict the decrease in core temperature induced by spinal anesthesia during cesarean delivery.

Comparison of the benefits and hemodynamic side effects of oxytocin between intravenous infusion with and without bolus injection during caesarean section.

The aim of this study was to compare the benefits and hemodynamic side effects of oxytocin between intravenous infusion with and without a bolus injection during a caesarean section. Women with singleton pregnancies who underwent caesarean sections under spinal anaesthesia were included. Oxytocin was administered by an iv bolus injection (5 U) followed by an intravenous infusion (10 U of oxytocin in 500 mL normal saline); this was switched to just an intravenous infusion.

Predicting onset of labor from echogenicity of the cervical gland area on vaginal ultrasonography at term.

Background And Aim: On vaginal ultrasonography, cervical gland area (CGA) gradually disappears with advancing gestation. This is attributed in part to the echogenicity of the CGA becoming equal to that of the cervical stroma. The present study aimed to assess the usefulness of echogenicity in the CGA at term for predicting the time of spontaneous onset of labor.

First Isolation of carbon dioxide-dependent Proteus mirabilis from an uncomplicated cystitis patient with Sjögren's syndrome.

An uncomplicated cystitis caused by CO2-dependent Proteus mirabilis was observed in a 64-year-old Japanese female patient with Sjögren's syndrome in the Aomori Kyoritsu Hospital, Aomori, Japan. The initial P. mirabilis isolate came from a midstream urine specimen containing large numbers of Gram-negative, rod-shaped organisms that failed to grow on both Drigalski agar and sheep blood agar incubated in ambient air.

Limited interaction between tacrolimus and P-glycoprotein in the rat small intestine.

The significance of intestinal P-glycoprotein (P-gp) in determining the oral bioavailability of tacrolimus has been still controversial. In this study, we reevaluated the interaction of tacrolimus with P-gp in the rat small intestine, by evaluating its absorption from the rat small intestine and its modulating effect on the absorption of known P-gp substrates (digoxin, methylprednisolone, and vinblastine). Intestinal absorption of tacrolimus itself was as extensive as other P-gp modulators such as cyclosporine and verapamil.

Relationship between loperamide-induced sedative effect and digoxin pharmacokinetics in healthy Japanese subjects.

Purpose: Loperamide-induced suppressive effects on central nervous system closely relate to a lack of or decline in the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) function. The aim of this study was to determine the loperamide-induced sedative effect quantitatively and to investigate possible alterations in the pharmacokinetics of digoxin, a substrate for P-gp, in Japanese subjects.

Methods: Loperamide hydrochloride (2 mg) was administered orally to 26 subjects and the critical flicker-fusion frequency threshold (CFF) values were measured every 30 min separately by portable instrument.

Recent studies suggest the effectiveness of ropivacaine in blocking neuropathic pain. To determine if ropivacaine affects sympathetic sprouting, we used pheochromocytoma (PC-12) cells, which differentiate into neurons on exposure to nerve growth factor (NGF).

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are believed to play an important role in the development of angiopathy in diabetes mellitus. Previous reports suggested a correlation between accumulation of AGEs and production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in human diabetic retina. However, the mechanisms involved were not revealed.
