Use of Postpartum Hemorrhage Checklist during Vaginal Deliveries: A Quality Improvement Study.

Objective:  Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) protocols improve patient safety and reduce utilization of blood products; however, few data exist on sustainability of PPH checklist use, how use affects care delivery, and variation of use among patient subgroups. This study aimed to (1) examine compliance with PPH checklist use during vaginal deliveries, (2) evaluate whether checklist use varied by patient and/or care team characteristics, and (3) evaluate whether checklist use was associated with increased use of recommended medications/interventions.

Study Design:  This was a quality improvement study performed from April 2021 through June 2023.

Chief nursing officers' perceptions of the Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree.

Problem: Nurse executives practice in a business environment, which requires a skill set that has traditionally not been included in advanced nursing curriculum. The Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) essentials are designed to address this gap in education while maintaining the focus on advanced nursing practice and executive management competency. Current literature supports the appropriateness of the DNP with practice focus areas of advanced practice specialties and nursing leadership.

Targeted ablation of beta cells in the embryonic zebrafish pancreas using E. coli nitroreductase.

In order to generate a zebrafish model of beta cell regeneration, we have expressed an Escherichia coli gene called nfsB in the beta cells of embryonic zebrafish. This bacterial gene encodes a nitroreductase (NTR) enzyme, which can convert prodrugs such as metronidazole (Met) to cytotoxins. By fusing nfsB to mCherry, we can simultaneously render beta cells susceptible to prodrug and visualize Met dependent cell ablation.

Case management evolution: from basic to advanced practice role.

This article provides an overview of nursing case management as an advanced practice role from a theoretical and practice basis. Not all case managers will, or need to, perform case management duties at the advanced level. However, it has become abundantly clear over the past several years that nurse case managers are performing more complex duties that appear to match the competencies of other advanced practice roles.
