Entecavir (ETV) is an antiviral used to treat chronic infection caused by the hepatitis B virus, which affects approximately 250 million people worldwide. In order to mitigate the impacts of ETV on the environment, including potential harm to human health, this study evaluated the use of the Fenton-like reaction, which uses iron complexed with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) at neutral pH, and the microbiological action of in removing ETV from the aqueous medium. Aqueous concentrations of 100 mg/L were subjected to Fenton-like degradation.

We used linked national dispensing and pathology data to identify people aged 14+ years initiating PrEP in 2018. We estimated non-adherence using the proportion of days covered (PDC), defining non-adherence as PDC < 60%.

The TDF molecule is hydrolysed in vivo and liberates tenofovir, the active part of the molecule. Tenofovir is a very stable drug and the discharge of its residues into the environment can potentially lead to risk for aquatic species.

Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) is a drug used in HIV treatment, and several studies have detected its presence in surface water. Furthermore, more information on its environmental impact is needed in the scientific literature. Thus, due to the lack of data on the impact of this drug, and its presence in different waters of the world, this work aimed to evaluate the potential toxicological effects of TDF on the mollusk Biomphalaria glabrata in vivo and in vitro.

Over time, a growing increase in human pollutants in the aquatic environment has been observed. The global presence of residues in water bodies reinforces the need to develop improved methods to detect them and evaluate their ecotoxicological effects in aquatic environments. Thus, this study aimed to present the main assays using Biomphalaria glabrata as a biological model for ecotoxicological studies.

We also compared the prevalence of repeated PEPSE according to patient and health services characteristics in 2018. The prevalence of PEPSE increased 55.

Methods: A sectional section of a prospective cohort study was carried out with people living with HIV, treatment-naive, initiating antiretroviral therapy, older than 16 years, and in follow-up treatment at specialized HIV/Aids care services in Belo Horizonte. Sociodemographic, behavioral, clinical, laboratory and pharmacological treatment-related data were obtained through interviews, medical records, and information systems for logistical control of antiretroviral medications and laboratory tests.
Levels of adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) can affect the likelihood of viral suppression differentially among ART regimens. In this prospective cohort conducted in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, we included 354 individuals who initiated ART containing tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/lamivudine/efavirenz in fixed-dose combination (TDF/3TC/EFV) or tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/lamivudine associated with dolutegravir (TDF/3TC + DTG). Viral suppression (viral load <50 copies/mL) was evaluated within six months of follow-up at different adherence levels and by therapeutic regimen.

Methods: Prospective cohort study among people living with HIV, aged 18 years or older, and initiating antiretroviral therapy. We obtained sociodemographic, behavioral, clinical data related to pharmacological treatment and to the service by face-to-face interviews, and supplemented these data with information from clinical records and Information Systems of the Brazilian HIV/AIDS Program.
Objective: To estimate the prevalence of smoking and evaluate the factors associated with this outcome in people living with HIV (PLHIV).
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of a prospective concurrent cohort of 462 individuals initiating antiretroviral therapy at three HIV/AIDS specialized services in Belo Horizonte between 2015 and 2017. The following smoking status were used: current smoker (CS), former smoker (FS) and non-smoker (NS).
Background: Access to medicines is an important indicator of healthcare system quality and capacity to resolve problems. The healthcare system needs to ensure free access to medicines for elderly people, in order to provide greater effectiveness of disease control, thus reducing morbidity and mortality, and improving health and quality of life.
Objectives: To analyze the frequency of free access to medication among older adults within primary care and determine the factors associated with free access.
Purpose: Complex medication regimens are common among older adults and contribute to the occurrence of undesirable health outcomes. This study aims to investigate the factors associated with high medication regimen complexity in older people.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with older adults selected from two primary healthcare units.
Introduction: Linkage is a critical step in the ongoing care of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV/aids) infection and is essential for providing access to antiretroviral therapy, as well as comprehensive care.
Methodology: Cross-sectional study on people living with HIV (PLHIV), aged ≥ 18 years old, linked between January and December 2015, in a referral service for outpatient and hospital care specialized in HIV/AIDS in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Linkage time was defined as the time from diagnosis to service linkage.

Combination Antiretroviral Therapy (cART) in single-tablet regimens (STR) is a simplification strategy that can potentially improve medication adherence and clinical outcomes. We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 1206 patients using efavirenz, tenofovir and lamivudine in multiple-tablet regimen who switched to the STR containing the same active ingredients in a southeast metropolis in Brazil. We measured adherence using the proportion of days covered (PDC≥95%) and evaluated this outcome before and after the switch using paired non-parametric statistics.
