π-Orbital mediated charge transfer channels in a monolayer Gr-NiPc heterointerface unveiled by soft X-ray electron spectroscopies and DFT calculations.

With the aim to identify charge transfer channels underlying device development and operation, X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Near-Edge X-Ray Absorption Fine Structure (NEXAFS), and Resonant Photoelectron Spectroscopy (ResPES) have been employed to characterize a novel heterointerface obtained by the controlled evaporation of a Nickel Phthalocyanine (NiPc) monolayer on a single layer of Graphene (Gr) on SiC substrate. Indeed, the Gr-NiPc interface could be a promising candidate for different applications in the field of photonics, optoelectronics, and sensing, provided that clear information on the charge transfer mechanisms at the Gr-NiPc interface can be obtained. The analysis of the spectroscopic data has shown the effective functionalization and the horizontally-flat disposition of the NiPc complexes over the Gr layer.

Exploring the performance of a functionalized CNT-based sensor array for breathomics through clustering and classification algorithms: from gas sensing of selective biomarkers to discrimination of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

An array of carbon nanotube (CNT)-based sensors was produced for sensing selective biomarkers and evaluating breathomics applications with the aid of clustering and classification algorithms. We assessed the sensor array performance in identifying target volatiles and we explored the combination of various classification algorithms to analyse the results obtained from a limited dataset of exhaled breath samples. The sensor array was exposed to ammonia (NH), nitrogen dioxide (NO), hydrogen sulphide (HS), and benzene (CH).

Unusual causes of acute intestinal obstruction in adults.

This paper refers to 50 unusual cases of 542 consecutive adult patients who underwent surgery because of acute intestinal obstruction. Of the 38 small bowel cases, 5 were caused by hernias in anomalous recesses (1 prevesical, 2 left paraduodenal, and 2 paracecal hernias), 6 by a gallstone ileus, 14 to the presence of a bezoar or foreign body, 8 to extended postradiation perivisceritis, 3 to Meckel diverticulum volvulus, 1 to transepiploic hernia, and 1 to ileus-Meckel hematoma during anticoagulation treatment. The 12 large bowel cases included 3 diaphragmatic hernias (1 late post-trauma), 3 cases of colo-colic intussusception, 1 case of obstructive cholecystitis, and 5 cases of Ogilvie's syndrome.

[Isoenzymatic characterization of human isolates of Leishmania sp (Kinetoplastida: Trypanosomatidae) from the municipalities of Rio Preto da Eva and Manaus, State of Amazonas].

Twenty-three isolates of Leishmania sp from patients in the municipalities of Rio Preto da Eva and Manaus were characterized and identified by means of isoenzyme electrophoresis and the degree of similarity between the organisms was analyzed. The results indicated that Leishmania guyanensis and Leishmania naiffi were present in these two environments and that the Leishmania naiffi samples were heterogenous.
