Utilising Narrative Medicine to Identify Key Factors Affecting Quality of Life in Dry Eye Disease: An Italian Multicentre Study.

Introduction: Despite an improved understanding of its pathogenesis, dry eye disease (DED) remains relatively underestimated and its treatment challenging. A better alignment between the clinical evaluation and the patient self-assessment also requires capturing the whole patient experience of DED. This project aimed to unveil this experience through narrative medicine (NM).

Acute zonal occult outer retinopathy complex disease: Lessons learned about choroid, photoreceptors, and retinal function.

Purpose: Retinal photoreceptors layer integrity is considered essential to visual function. We report a case of acute zonal occult outer retinopathy (AZOOR) complex disease (namely AIBSE: acute idiopathic blind spot enlargement) in which apparently a full anatomic regeneration is not needed for a complete functional recovery.

Methods: Case report with multimodal imaging.

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Findings in Optic Nerve Sheath Meningioma.

A 46-year-old female with a history of 5 months of progressive painless visual loss in the left eye was found to have an optic nerve sheath meningioma. Optical coherence tomography angiography showed a reduction in the superficial capillary plexus density consistent with her visual field defect and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thinning. Moreover, abnormalities in the choriocapillaris were found in the affected eye compared to the fellow eye.

Suprasellar meningioma presenting with glaucomatous type cupping.

Purpose: To describe a case of a suprasellar meningioma compressing the chiasm from below and producing a unilateral fascicular (nasal) visual field defect that mimicked glaucomatous cupping.

Case Report: A 78-year-old man presented with painless, progressive, unilateral arcuate visual field defect. He was diagnosed with "normal tension glaucoma" based on an asymmetric cup to disc ratio.

Idiopathic binasal hemianopia: case report and literature review.

A 56-year-old lady was referred for complete binasal hemianopia noticed during routine glaucoma screening. On examination the patient was asymptomatic, there were no ophthalmic causes explaining her visual field defect and further neurologic investigation was normal. Binasal hemianopia is an uncommon finding that is usually associated to intraocular conditions, but may rarely be caused by neurologic diseases.

Multimodal imaging evaluation of combined hamartoma of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium.

Purpose: Combined hamartoma of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium is a rare benign tumor characterized by a variable combination of glial, vascular, and pigmented components. The purpose of our study was to analyze the features of combined hamartoma of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium on optical coherence tomography angiography.

Methods: Small case series of two cases of combined hamartoma of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium with macular and optic nerve involvement, evaluated with multimodal imaging including optical coherence tomography, fluorescein angiography, and optical coherence tomography angiography.

Morpho-functional evaluation of torpedo maculopathy with optical coherence tomography angiography and microperimetry.

Purpose: To report the case of a 13-year-old girl with torpedo maculopathy, evaluated with multimodal morpho-functional retinal imaging, including fundus photography, infra-red and blue fundus autofluorescence, swept-source optical coherence tomography (OCT), en face OCT, OCT angiography and microperimetry (MP).

Observations: On fundus examination, a torpedo-like hypopigmented lesion was observed temporal to the fovea in the left eye. OCT showed disruption of outer retinal layers and the presence of a subretinal cleft.
