The purpose of this article is to describe (a) the Finding Common Ground Summits conducted in Florida during 2005-2006 with the objective of improving communication, collaboration, and consensus building among organizations interested in reducing sexual health risk behaviors among youth; (b) the attitudes of Summit participants; and (c) the impact of this exploratory initiative. The 196 participants, invited to participate by the Florida Department of Education, included individuals working in both school and community human sexuality education and promotion programs. Participants completed an initial survey just before the one-day Summits identifying attitudes and beliefs toward sexuality education.

This article reports the efficacy of a brief substance use preventive reintervention for suburban high school students funded by NIAAA. Participants were randomly assigned to receive a brief consultation or control brochure in Fall 2002. Significant positive effects at the 3- and 12-month follow-up have been reported elsewhere.

Objective: The authors explored the relationship between self-reported vigorous exercise frequency and alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) use behaviors among first-year college students who self-identified as drinkers.

Participants: The authors recruited 391 freshman college students in Northeast Florida to participate in an alcohol abuse prevention study.

Methods: The authors conducted a multivariate analysis of variance to assess the relationship between vigorous exercise frequency and 6 measures of ATOD use at baseline.

This study explored beverage-specific alcohol consumption patterns among a sample of high school students over a two-year period. Four hundred fifty-five students completed the validated questionnaire at all three time points (2002, 2003, 2004). Variables of interest included five use measures (past year use, 30-day frequency, quantity, heavy use, chugging), each measured for six beverages (beer, wine, flavored coolers, fortified wine, liquor, malt liquor).

In this study, the authors evaluated the feasibility and efficacy of a binge drinking prevention intervention for college students delivered via the Internet versus a parallel print-based intervention delivered via postal mail. A total of 116 college students completed the baseline survey. The authors then randomized the students into the Web or print group and sent them intervention materials.
