Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the significance of testing the gain of chromosome 8 and the gain of chromosome 6 as prognostic markers in histopathological samples of enucleated eyes in with uveal melanoma.

Methods: This is a retrospective study of 54 enucleated eyes. The status of chromosomes 3, 8 and 6 was tested by CISH, and FISH was used in a few samples.

This paper presents the results of an analysis of the changes in the stiffness of asphalt binders modified with a bio-flux additive and subjected to the processes of foaming and short-term ageing. The purpose of the analyses was to determine changes in the rheological properties of asphalt binder as a result of technological processes characteristic of hot and warm mix asphalt technology. Three asphalt binders with similar penetration but varying degrees of polymer modification were tested: 50/70, 45/80-55 polymer-modified bitumen, and 45/80-80 highly modified bitumen.

The present paper investigates the viscoelastic stress-strain responses of laboratory and plant produced warm mix asphalt mixtures containing basalt fiber dispersed reinforcement. The investigated processes and mixture components were evaluated for their efficacy in producing highly performing asphalt mixtures with decreased mixing and compaction temperatures. Surface course asphalt concrete (AC-S 11 mm) and high modulus asphalt concrete (HMAC 22 mm) conventionally and using a warm mix asphalt technique with foamed bitumen and a bio-derived fluxing additive.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to compare the effect of three initial doses of the anti-VEGF ranibizumab and aflibercept medication on serous pigment epithelial detachment (PED), subretinal fluid (SRF) and intraretinal fluid (IRF) in the macula of treatment naive neovascular AMD (nvAMD) patients.

Material And Methods: The cohort consists of 148 patients, of which 74 patients were treated with ranibizumab (51 females and 23 males) and 74 with aflibercept (46 females and 28 males). The data was recorded prospectively from the moment of diagnosis and start of treatment for a period of 3 months.

This article compares the properties of bacterial cellulose/fish collagen composites (BC/Col) after enzymatic and chemical cross-linking. In our methodology, two transglutaminases are used for enzymatic cross-linking-one recommended for the meat and the other proposed for the fish industry-and pre-oxidated BC (oxBC) is used for chemical cross-linking. The structure of the obtained composites is characterized by scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and their functional properties by mechanical and water barrier tests.

In this paper we have investigated and optimized a non-enzymatic fluorometric creatinine assay. The method was originally described by Blass in the 90s, but we found that besides the reagents mentioned in the paper, an addition of hydrogen peroxide is required to obtain a fluorescent compound. The excitation and emission maxima of the fluorophore are 405 nm and 475 nm, respectively.

The developed designs were fabricated with the use of the most affordable 3D printing technique, namely Fused Filament Fabrication, and require neither hardware nor tools to assemble. In this work, two environmentally friendly modification methods, UV irradiation and thermal treatment, were applied for the first time for modifications of oat and barley starches. Their impacts on starch properties were compared with those observed for starch oxidation with NaClO. A rapid, single-point method for colorimetric creatinine determination has been developed as an alternative for a well-established Jaffé assay, which lacks analytical specificity. 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid was employed in an alkaline environment as a chromophore instead of picric acid. Rapid Prototyping technologies expand the availability of fabrication of plastic objects to non-skilled users that need sophisticated equipment for their research. Introduction: Zonulin (ZO), a new diagnostic biomarker of intestinal permeability, was tested in newborns presenting symptoms of infection and/or inflammation of the gut or being at risk of intestinal pathology.

Material And Methods: Serum ZO was assessed in 81 newborns diagnosed with sepsis, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), rotavirus infection, and gastroschisis, also in extremely low gestational age babies, and in controls (healthy newborns). ZO concentration was compared to C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (PCT) values, leucocyte and platelet count, basic demographic data, and the value of the Neonatal Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System (NTISS).

A compact flow analysis system for non-invasive, dialysate-side monitoring of phosphate removal in the course of clinical hemodialysis treatment is presented. The monitor is based on solenoid operated micro-pumps and extremely cheap optoelectronic flow-through detector allowing photometric determination of phosphate in spent dialysate using a molybdenum blue method. Effect of heating of the potato starch on damages of its structure was investigated by quantitative electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and determination of the molecular weight distribution. The measurements were performed in the temperature range commonly used for starch modifications optimizing properties important for industrial applications. Upon thermal treatment, because of breaking of the polymer chains, diminishing of the average molecular weights occurred, which significantly influences generation of radicals, evidenced by EPR.
