Evolution of differences in transport function in Slc11a family members.

Slc11a1 (formerly Nramp1) is a proton/divalent cation transporter that regulates cation homeostasis in macrophages. Slc11a2 mediates divalent cation uptake via the gut and delivery into cells. The mode of action of the two transporters remains controversial.

Cytokine mRNA profiles in pigs exposed prenatally and postnatally to Schistosoma japonicum.

The pig is a natural host for Schistosoma japonicum and a useful animal model of human infection. The aim of the present study was to assess the differences between the cytokine profiles in prenatally or postnatally S. japonicum exposed pigs.
