Adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder is an acquired, degenerative disease characterized by epithelial proliferation with hypertrophy of the muscularis layer with forming of sinus tracts, termed Rokitansky-Aschoff sinuses. Adenomyomatosis is diagnosed mainly by ultrasonography. The pathogenesis, pathology, and indications for surgery in this condition are not well understood.
