Patients with unstable angina present clinical characteristics of atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability, contrary to chronic coronary syndrome patients. The process of athersclerotic plaque destabilization is also regulated by microRNA particles. In this study, the investigation on expression levels of microRNAs inhibiting the expression of proteins that protect from atherosclerotic plaque progression (miR-92a inhibiting KLF2, miR-10b inhibiting KLF4, miR-126 inhibiting MerTK, miR-98 inhibiting IL-10, miR-29b inhibiting TGFβ1) was undertaken.

Surgical flaps are rudimentary tools in reconstructive surgery, especially following extensive solid tumour resections. They cover skin and soft tissue defects but are prone to ischaemia and necrosis. Since their primary aim is reconstruction, they rarely exhibit a therapeutic activity against the treated disease.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetes mellitus (DM) negatively impacts skin wound healing, and there are limited treatments available to help with this issue.
  • This study explored the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC), an antioxidant, on wound healing using a mouse model with type II DM, comparing different concentrations of NAC in hydrogels against a placebo.
  • The results showed that a 5% NAC concentration significantly improved wound healing speed and dermal proliferation, while higher concentrations did not enhance the healing process.

The objective of this study was to investigate if delivering multiple doses of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) post-surgery in addition to pre-incisional administration significantly impacts the wound healing process in a rat model. Full-thickness skin incisions were carried out on the dorsum of 24 Sprague-Dawley rats in six locations. Fifteen minutes prior to the incision, half of the sites were treated with a control solution, with the wounds on the contralateral side treated with solutions containing 0.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is widely used for induction of inflammation in various human tissues, including dental pulp. The purpose of this study was to summarize current medical literature focusing on (1) cell types used by researchers to simulate dental pulp inflammation, (2) LPS variants utilized in experimental settings and how these choices affect the findings. Our study was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA).

Article Synopsis
  • This study introduces implantable, biodegradable fiducial markers (FMs) designed for enhanced imaging using near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) and X-ray techniques, composed of a radiopaque core and fluorescent shell made of poly(l-lactide--caprolactone).
  • The research evaluated the properties of these FMs using approved contrast agents, demonstrating effective contrasting capabilities in imaging and revealing that hydroxyapatite (HAp) improved initial radiopacity while slightly affecting stability in certain formulations.
  • Tissue responses around the FMs indicated that they did not cause significant adverse effects, suggesting they are suitable for use in NIRF-guided tumor surgeries and X-ray-guided radi

In this study, we aimed to investigate the influence of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on the gene expression profile, neoangiogenesis, neutrophils and macrophages in a rat model of incisional wounds. Before creating wounds on the backs of 24 Sprague-Dawley rats, intradermal injections were made. Lidocaine-epinephrin solutions were supplemented with 0.

The aim of the study was to evaluate if a pre-incisional -acetylcysteine (NAC) treatment altered the process of wound healing in a rat model. The dorsal skin of 24 Sprague-Dawley rats was incised in six locations. Before the incisions were made, skin was injected either with lidocaine and epinephrine (one side) or with these agents supplemented with 0.

Tumour angiogenesis is a crucial factor associated with tumour growth, progression, and metastasis. The whole process is the result of an interaction between a wide range of different molecules, influencing each other. Herein we summarize novel discoveries related to the less known angiogenic molecules such as galectins, pentraxin-3, Ral-interacting protein of 76 kDa (RLIP76), long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), B7-H3, and delta-like ligand-4 (DLL-4) and their role in the process of tumour angiogenesis.
