Methods: In 12 normal human pregnancies, umbilical arterial and venous and maternal venous blood was sampled, and whole blood ammonia concentrations were measured.
This paper presents the results of the determination of serum anion gap in arterial and venous umbilical cord blood obtained from a carefully selected group of 47 healthy term newborns. In the arterial blood, the following concentrations of particular anions were found: chloride - 102.85 +/- 4.
