It has been postulated that the changes in the molecular characteristics of the malignant clone(s) and the abnormal activation of JAK-STAT signaling are responsible for myeloproliferative neoplasm progression to more advanced disease phases and the immune escape of the malignant clone. Monitoring of chronic myeloid leukemia treatment efficacy requires very sensitive methods of BCR-ABL gene detection based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
