Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how COVID-19 affected patients with autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIIRD) in Israel, particularly during different outbreaks and after vaccination.
  • The research showed that the first three COVID-19 outbreaks resulted in higher severity and mortality among AIIRD patients compared to the fourth outbreak, which came after vaccination started.
  • Ultimately, finding revealed that vaccination significantly reduced severe outcomes from COVID-19, while the disease did not notably worsen AIIRD conditions in the months following recovery.

Unlabelled: The current study explored the possible utilization in dual-X-ray-absorptiometry scanning (DXA) of the ultra-distal radius (UDR). This region of interest is currently unused and mostly unstudied in this context. The study findings suggest UDR as potential useful region of interest in DXA scanning and warrant further study of the site.

Article Synopsis
  • Some vaccines, including those for SARS-CoV-2, can trigger or worsen immune-mediated diseases (IMDs) due to their unique mechanisms of action involving TLR agonism.
  • A study evaluated 27 cases of new-onset or flare-up of IMDs within 28 days of receiving SARS-CoV-2 vaccines across five major medical centers in Israel, the UK, and the USA, with most cases linked to the BNT-162b2 vaccine.
  • The majority of cases were mild to moderate in severity, with notable recovery in over 80% of patients, often with corticosteroid treatment, and a large number of IMD occurrences could not be directly linked to the specific vaccine administered.

Data regarding the risk for severe COVID19 in patients with autoimmune or inflammatory diseases are scarce. The charts of those tested positive for COVID19 between 1 March 2020 and 31 May 2020 reviewed including demographics, co-morbidities, and medications.
