Objective: This study sought to evaluate prevalence of regret with the decision to undergo a hysterectomy at a young age.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed at two centres and included patients who underwent an elective hysterectomy for benign indications under age 35, between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2015. Eligible patients were contacted and completed a validated decision regret survey and patient health questionnaire.
Endometriosis-associated pelvic pain and subfertility may be managed medically in many cases; however, the surgical management of this insidious disease remains a necessary part of the treatment algorithm. Laparoscopy for diagnosis alone is rarely indicated with the advancements in preoperative imaging. When surgery is performed, the ideal goal would be a therapeutic and effective surgical intervention based on the preoperative evaluation.

Low fidelity simulation has been shown to improve surgical performance. Our objectives were: to develop procedure-specific models to teach anterior repair (AR), posterior repair (PR), and vaginal hysterectomy (VH) to junior residents; to establish model reliability and validity.

Case: A multiparous woman underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy with prophylactic bilateral salpingectomy and abdominal sacrocolpopexy for pelvic organ prolapse.

Connexin43 plays an important role in neuroprotection in experimental stroke models; reducing the expression of this gap junction protein in astrocytes enhances injury upon middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Because the C-terminal region of connexin43 isimportant for channel activity, we carried out MCAO stroke experiments in mice expressing a truncated form of connexin43 (Cx43DeltaCT mice). Brain sections were analyzed for infarct volume, astrogliosis, and inflammatory cell invasion 4 days after MCAO.

Objectives: To review the accuracy of fine-needle aspiration cytology in diagnosing non-toxic thyroid nodules and determine what factors are predictive of malignancy in patients with indeterminate cytology results.
Design: Retrospective study.
Setting: Regional hospital, Hong Kong.
Aim: We investigated the effect of massive doses of corticosteroid therapy on bone metabolism using specific biochemical markers of bone metabolism, and the prevalence of osteonecrosis in severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) patients at a university teaching hospital in Hong Kong.
Methods: Seventy-one patients with a clinical diagnosis of SARS were studied according to the modified World Health Organization case definition of SARS who were involved in the SARS epidemic between 10 March and 20 June 2003. The clinical diagnosis was confirmed by serological test and/or molecular analysis.
Background: Roche Diagnostics has issued new c-fas calibrators for its automated systems. These produce creatinine values that are more comparable with those obtained by high-performance liquid chromatography. However, this results in an underestimation of measured creatinine at concentrations below 155 micromol/L and an overestimation at concentrations above this value.
