The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) serves all 95 counties of Tennessee, but the data included in this article are primarily focused in Upper East and East Tennessee (the parts of the state included in the eastern time zone). The forensic chemistry (seized drug) unit of the TBI began reporting nitazene analogues in late 2019. The primary analogues found in forensic chemistry cases were isotonitazene and metonitazene.

Shelf-stable products are needed as a temporary bridge to in-hospital transfusion. To address this, two hemostatic agents, Combat Gauze (CG) and XSTAT, were evaluated in a porcine model of uncontrolled junctional hemorrhage for speed of deployment and hemostatic efficacy over 72 hours.
Methods: The left subclavian artery and subscapular vein were isolated in anesthetized male Yorkshire swine (70-85 kg) and injured via 50% transection, followed by 30 seconds of hemorrhage.
Background: Although hemorrhage remains the leading cause of survivable death in casualties, modern conflicts are becoming more austere limiting available resources to include resuscitation products. With limited resources also comes prolonged evacuation time, leaving suboptimal prehospital field care conditions. When blood products are limited or unavailable, crystalloid becomes the resuscitation fluid of choice.

Background: There exists a long established but not validated practice of placing temporary intravascular shunts (TIVS) in cases of combined vascular and orthopedic extremity trauma. Though logical to prioritize blood flow, large-scale data to support this practice is lacking.
