'Na prática, a teoria è outra' (in practice, the theory is different) is an old Brazilian saying. This phrase summarizes well the general practice of breastfeeding in Brazil: 'Breast is best' is central in the pregnant women's future oriented 'theory' of how their infant should be fed. In the subsequent weeks after delivery, however, in the daily practicalities of feeding their infant, this theory is, to a large extent, abandoned.

To explore social aspects of asymptomatic carriership of factor V Leiden mutation (FVL) and how carriers have experienced procedure of screening for FVL, we have performed a qualitative study using semi-structured interviews. Seventeen carriers of FVL without history of venous thromboembolism (VTE) were interviewed. Carriership of FVL has the potential to influence daily life by inducing concerns, stigmatisation and problems with insurances.

Introduction: The proper treatment of patients with acute haematogenous osteomyelitis and acute suppurative arthritis is still controversial. Based on a previous study, a treatment regimen was recommended. We now report on the clinical, bacteriological, and radiological aspects of the diseases, with special attention to possible changes in the natural history of the diseases and the long-term prognosis.
