Gleason Score Evolution and the Effect on Prostate Cancer Outcomes.

Objectives: We evaluated how the changes in Gleason grading affected the long-term outcomes of a large prostatectomy cohort.

Methods: We obtained long-term follow-up (16.7 years) in 581 patients having undergone radical retropubic prostatectomy between 1985 and 1995.

Comparison of Recurrence and Postoperative Complications Between 3 Different Techniques for Surgical Repair of Idiopathic Hydrocele.

Objective: To determine if recurrence rates and complication rates differ between 3 different techniques for treatment of idiopathic hydrocele: Jaboulay's bottleneck, hydrocelectomy, or Lord's technique.

Methods: All surgeries for idiopathic hydrocele in the health system were reviewed from 2000 to 2011. Recurrence rate, complication rate, and other surgical data were collected and analyzed.

Validation of postoperative nomograms in prostate cancer patients with long-term follow-up.

Objective: To validate established postoperative nomograms in a patient population with long-term follow-up. There are well-documented risk factors that can help predict for failure after radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. When combined together, the predictive power is greater than any single factor.

Maintenance of erectile function after photoselective vaporization of the prostate for obstructive benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Introduction: Photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP) with the greenlight laser has become a popular alternative to the standard transurethral resection of the prostate for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Our initial results of postoperative erectile function are presented.

Aim: To prospectively evaluate the postoperative erectile function of the first 105 consecutive patients undergoing PVP at Texas A&M Health Sciences Center, Scott & White Memorial Hospital, using the Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) questionnaire.

Testicular trauma secondary to less-lethal kinetic energy munitions.

Many cases of testicular trauma secondary to munitions have been reported. We report a case of a 37-year-old man who suffered testicular trauma as a result of a less-lethal munition projectile. With the advent, and increased use, of less-lethal munitions by the military and law enforcement agencies, more of these new subsets of genitourinary trauma patients who will require care are sure to result.
