This research investigates the concentrations, sources, and health risks of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and nitrated PAHs (NPAHs) in particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 10 μm or less (PM[Formula: see text]) from critical urban centers in northern Mexico: Metropolitan Monterrey Area (MMA), Chihuahua (CHI), and Ciudad Juárez (CDJ). Advanced gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS and GC-NCI-MS) revealed significant PAHs concentrations, with levels in MMA reaching 108.89 ± 99.

This work presents a methodology integrating Non-Linear Programming (NLP) for multi-objective and multi-period optimization, addressing sustainable waste management and energy conversion challenges. It integrates waste-to-energy (WtE) technologies such as Anaerobic Digestion (AD), Incineration (Inc), Gasification (Gsf), and Pyrolysis (Py), and considers thermochemical, technical, economic, and environmental considerations through rigorous non-linear functions. Using Mexico City as a case study, the model develops waste management strategies that balance environmental and economic aims, considering social impacts.

This paper introduces a method for determining the authenticity of commercial cereal bars based on trace element fingerprints. In this regard, 120 cereal bars were prepared using microwave-assisted acid digestion and the concentrations of Al, Ba, Bi, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Li, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Rb, Se, Sn, Sr, V, and Zn were later measured by ICP-MS. Results confirmed the suitability of the analyzed samples for human consumption.

A simple, fast, and efficient spark discharge-laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (SD-LIBS) method was developed for determining rice botanic origin using predictive modeling based on support vector machine (SVM). An environmentally reliable analytical methodology was developed for direct quantification of tetracycline (TC) and oxytetracycline (OTC) using continuous flow injection analysis with spectrophotometric detection. The method is based on the diazo coupling reaction between the tetracyclines and diazotized sulfanilic acid in a basic medium, resulting in the formation of an intense orange azo compound that presents maximum absorption at 434 nm.
