The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the biggest public health threat the world has seen in many years and poses new challenges and opportunities to healthcare systems. The new reality imposed by the pandemic requires a modification of practices to ensure the health and safety of patients and medical teams. Objectives: to determine the impact of the removal of a clinical pharmacist from an acute geriatric ward on patients' Medication Appropriateness Index (MAI) scores, admission-related outcomes and drug burdens.
Purpose: To present the pharmacological evaluation process in a case of a polymedicated patient presenting with toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN).
Summary: A 75-year-old Caucasian polymedicated woman had been treated for hip pain with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and pregabalin in the months preceding the apparition of an expanding papulo-erythematous rash. She had also started using new medicated eye drops for glaucoma.
Aims: CYP2D6 genetic polymorphisms are associated with metoprolol pharmacokinetics. Whether the clinical response to metoprolol is also affected remains uncertain.
Methods: We conducted a systematic review on the effects of CYP2D6 polymorphism on the clinical response to metoprolol.
