Lactation performance of cows infected with Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (Map) was previously studied using only serum ELISA as a diagnostic method. This study evaluated on two dairy farms in Minnesota, USA the lactation performance (measures of health, production, reproduction, and survival) of cows shedding Map in feces before calving and of cows culled with clinical signs consistent with Johne's disease (JD) during the subsequent lactation.

Cystic hygroma of the neck is a benign, congenital tumor of lymphatic origin rarely seen in adults, with approximately 100 cases presented in the literature. The etiology of this lesion is poorly understood, with spontaneous occurrence, upper respiratory infection, or trivial trauma being suggested. We present a recent unique case report of an adult male tactical aviator who experienced a progressively enlarging cystic hygroma of the neck over a 2-week period without history of infection or obvious trauma.

A palsy of the long thoracic nerve of Bell is a cause of scapular winging that has been reported after trauma, surgery, infection, electrocution, chiropractic manipulation, exposure to toxins, and various sports-related injuries that include tennis, hockey, bowling, soccer, gymnastics, and weight lifting. Scapular winging can result from repetitive or sudden external biomechanical forces that may either exert compression or place extraordinary traction in the distribution of the long thoracic nerve. We describe an active duty Navy Airman who developed scapular winging secondary to traction to the long thoracic nerve injury while working on the flight line.
