Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the potential of anterior in beam bismuth shields placed on the abdomen and the pelvis of a RANDO phantom to decrease radiation dose to a simulated fetus.

Methods: Thermal luminescent dosimeters irradiated in a RANDO phantom were used to measure radiation dose at 0 weeks and 18 weeks after conception. An 18-week gestation was simulated by adding the corresponding equivalent of super-stuff to account for additional subcutaneous tissue.

A pilot study to compare radiation exposure with the Tru-Align rectangular collimation system to round collimation exposures was undertaken. Radiation exposure at various points within the cross sections of the collimators and entrance, intraoral and exit dose measurements were measured using InLight OSL dosimeters. Overall dose reduction with the use of the rectangular collimation system was estimated by taking into account the ratios of collimator openings and the average radiation exposure at the measurement points.

Rationale And Objectives: To evaluate the potential use of gadolinium (Gd)-based contrast media, especially that of Gadovist, a 1-molar Gd medium, in computed tomography (CT) and compare our findings with standard iodinated contrast media.

Material And Methods: Using a live rabbit and an acrylic CT body phantom for comparative CT imaging of Gd- and I-based media. The images were acquired at 80, 100, and 120 kVp, using fixed standard beam filtration.
