For the data collection, a survey was conducted among a sufficient number of centres, including five University hospitals, several cantonal hospitals, and large private clinics, covering all linguistic regions of Switzerland to be representative of the clinical practice. The data gathered contained the mean glandular dose (MGD), the compressed breast thickness (CBT), the mammography model and the examination parameters for each acquisition.

There are, however, no published recommendations regarding CT scan protocols and no dose reference values for CT of the MCE. The objective of this analysis was to assess adherence to AGFAD recommendations among practitioners of FAE and analyse reported dose-relevant CT scan parameters with the objective of helping to establish evidence-based dose reference values for FAE.

In Europe, and as also shown in a short assessment in Switzerland, the use of patient shielding is inhomogeneous. The aim of this study was to systematically review recent literature in order to assess benefits and appraise disadvantages related to the routine use of patient shielding.

This study compares a 3D radial respiratory self-navigated native MRA (native-SN-MRA) based on a bSSFP sequence with conventional Cartesian, 3D, contrast-enhanced MRA (CE-MRA) with navigator-gated respiration control for image quality of the entire thoracic aorta.
Methods: Thirty-one aortic native-SN-MRA were compared retrospectively (63.
Background Often used for T1 mapping of hip cartilage, three-dimensional (3D) dual-flip-angle (DFA) techniques are highly sensitive to flip angle variations related to B inhomogeneities. The authors hypothesized that 3D magnetization-prepared 2 rapid gradient-echo (MP2RAGE) MRI would help provide more accurate T1 mapping of hip cartilage at 3.0 T than would 3D DFA techniques.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included 103 patients operated during the January 2016 to June 2018 period with preoperative 1.5 T and 3 T MRI, with or without vaginal and rectal gel filling.
Purpose: To show that both susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) and T2*-mapping are dependent on liver steatosis, which should be taken into account when using these parameters to grade liver fibrosis and cirrhosis.
Methods: In this prospective study, a total of 174 patients without focal liver disease underwent multiparametric MRI at 3 T including SWI, T1- and T2* mapping, proton density fat fraction (PDFF) quantification and MR elastography. SWI, T2* and T1 were measured in the liver (4 locations), as well as in paraspinal muscles, to calculate the liver-to-muscle ratio (LMR).
Objectives: To investigate prospectively the repeatability of pancreatic perfusion measurements using arterial spin labelling (ASL) and to determine the increase in perfusion due to secretin stimulation.
Material And Methods: An (FAIR)-TrueFISP ASL sequence was applied to determine the perfusion of the pancreatic head in a 3T MRI scanner. Ten healthy volunteers (four men, six women: mean age 28.
Objectives: To assess retrospectively whether diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) allows physicians to determine the severity of histopathologic findings in biopsies of renal allograft patients with deteriorating renal function.
Methods: Forty consecutive kidney transplant patients underwent DW-MRI and biopsy. Patients were assigned to one group with severe and to another group with normal or mild histopathologic findings.
Objectives: Left ventricular assist devices are an important treatment option for patients with heart failure alter the hemodynamics in the heart and great vessels. Because in vivo magnetic resonance studies of patients with ventricular assist devices are not possible, in vitro models represent an important tool to investigate flow alterations caused by these systems. By using an in vitro magnetic resonance-compatible model that mimics physiologic conditions as close as possible, this work investigated the flow characteristics using 4-dimensional flow-sensitive magnetic resonance imaging of a left ventricular assist device with outflow via the right subclavian artery as commonly used in cardiothoracic surgery in the recent past.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims/hypothesis: Ectopic lipids are fuel stores in non-adipose tissues (skeletal muscle [intramyocellular lipids; IMCL], liver [intrahepatocellular lipids; IHCL] and heart [intracardiomyocellular lipids; ICCL]). IMCL can be depleted by physical activity. Preliminary data suggest that aerobic exercise increases IHCL.

As an alternative, noninvasive postmortem observation of alterations of brain metabolites by means of (1)H MRS has been suggested for an estimation of the PMI at room temperature, so far without including the effect of other ambient temperatures. In order to study the temperature effect, localized (1)H MRS was used to follow brain decomposition in a sheep brain model at four different temperatures between 4 and 26°C with repeated measurements up to 2100 h postmortem.

Methods: Fifty-six coronary bypasses (right coronary artery n=18, left internal mammary artery to left anterior descending artery n=16, marginal artery n=7, circumflex artery n=7, diagonal artery n=6, left anterior descending artery n=1, and right internal mammary artery to right coronary artery n=1) were studied in 27 asymptomatic patients. In this prospective study, each bypass was studied intra-operatively using Doppler flow measurement.
We hypothesized that network analysis is useful to expose coordination between whole body and myocellular levels of energy metabolism and can identify entities that underlie skeletal muscle's contribution to growth hormone-stimulated lipid handling and metabolic fitness. We assessed 112 metabolic parameters characterizing metabolic rate and substrate handling in tibialis anterior muscle and vascular compartment at rest, after a meal and exercise with growth hormone replacement therapy (GH-RT) of hypopituitary patients (n = 11). The topology of linear relationships (| r | ≥ 0.

Purpose: Both liver and muscle glycogen stores play a fundamental role in exercise and fatigue, but the effect of different CHO sources on liver glycogen synthesis in humans is unclear. The aim was to compare the effect of maltodextrin (MD) drinks containing galactose, fructose, or glucose on postexercise liver glycogen synthesis.
Methods: In this double-blind, triple crossover, randomized clinical trial, 10 well-trained male cyclists performed three experimental exercise sessions separated by at least 1 wk.
Introduction: Preoperative mapping of the arterial spinal supply prior to thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair is highly relevant because of high risk for postoperative ischemic spinal cord injuries such as paraparesis or paraplegia.
Methods: Twenty-four consecutive patients prior to surgical thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair were investigated. All patients underwent steady-state MR angiography (MRA) of the spinal vasculature with 3-T MRI.
Evaluation of a novel non-invasive tool for postoperative follow-up of patients postelective saphenous vein coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) was performed. Ten patients were included. Their bypass grafts supplied the right coronary artery (7), marginal branches (1), diagonal branches (2), and the circumflex artery (n=1).

Research Design And Methods: Seven male individuals with type 1 diabetes performed 120 min of aerobic exercise at 55-60% of Vo(2max) randomly on two occasions (glucose clamped to 5 or 11 mmol/l, identical insulinemia).
Intramyocellular lipids (IMCL) are flexible fuel stores that are depleted by physical exercise and replenished by fat intake. IMCL or their degradation products are thought to interfere with insulin signaling thereby contributing to insulin resistance. From a practical point of view it is desirable to deplete IMCL prior to replenishing them.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: High sugar and fat intakes are known to increase intrahepatocellular lipids (IHCLs) and to cause insulin resistance. High protein intake may facilitate weight loss and improve glucose homeostasis in insulin-resistant patients, but its effects on IHCLs remain unknown.
Objective: The aim was to assess the effect of high protein intake on high-fat diet-induced IHCL accumulation and insulin sensitivity in healthy young men.
Background: Both nutritional and genetic factors are involved in the pathogenesis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and insulin resistance.
Objective: The aim was to assess the effects of fructose, a potent stimulator of hepatic de novo lipogenesis, on intrahepatocellular lipids (IHCLs) and insulin sensitivity in healthy offspring of patients with type 2 diabetes (OffT2D)--a subgroup of individuals prone to metabolic disorders.
Design: Sixteen male OffT2D and 8 control subjects were studied in a crossover design after either a 7-d isocaloric diet or a hypercaloric high-fructose diet (3.
