Background: Somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS) has been successfully used in imaging PBTs and, as a functional imaging modality, may be better able to differentiate tumor from scar/necrosis. This retrospective study evaluates the role of SRS in post-treatment surveillance of PBTs.

Sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Foundation of the National Institutes of Health, and the National Cancer Institute, and attended by representatives of the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and scientists and clinical researchers from academia and the pharmaceutical and medical imaging industries, the workshop reviewed the etiology and current standards of care for NHL and proposed the development of a clinical trial to validate FDG-PET imaging techniques as a predictive biomarker for cancer therapy response. As organized under the auspices of the Oncology Biomarker Qualification Initiative, the three federal health agencies and their private sector and nonprofit/advocacy group partners believe that FDG-PET not only demonstrates the potential to be used for the diagnosis and staging of many cancers but in particular can provide an early indication of therapeutic response that is well correlated with clinical outcomes for chemotherapy for this common form of lymphoma.

Molecular confinement offers new routes for arraying large DNA molecules, enabling single-molecule schemes aimed at the acquisition of sequence information. Such schemes can rapidly advance to become platforms capable of genome analysis if elements of a nascent system can be integrated at an early stage of development. Integrated strategies are needed for surmounting the stringent experimental requirements of nanoscale devices regarding fabrication, sample loading, biochemical labeling, and detection.

A self-consistent coarse-grained Langevin description of the polymer dynamics is adopted in which the polymer beads are treated as point forces. We present a case of a heart transplant recipient who had new-onset heart failure, repeatedly unremarkable endomyocardial biopsies, a negative evaluation for humoral rejection, and subsequently autopsy findings of severe sub-epicardial myocyte necrosis with classic cellular rejection. The sub-endocardial layer was free from rejection. The implications for clinical management, in the context of a diagnosis of "biopsy-negative rejection with hemodynamic compromise," include the need to consider intensification of immunosuppression with regimens similar to those used for biopsy-proven rejection.

In particular, both uniform planar shear (Couette) and pressure driven (Poiseuille) flows of a dilute polymer solution are studied using a bead-spring representation of polymer chains and a coarse grained model for the solvent. Our results show that three mechanisms govern the migration of deformable molecules in a nanochannel: (1) chain-wall hydrodynamic interactions, (2) thermal diffusion, and (3) gradient in chain mobility.

To image p53 and MnSOD gene transfer noninvasively, we used radiologically detectable dual-expressing adenoviral vectors with the human sodium iodide symporter (hNIS) as the reporter gene.
Methods: Dual-expressing adenoviral vectors were constructed with hNIS cloned into E3 region and therapeutic genes, either MnSOD or p53, recombined into the E1 region.
A 45-year-old woman with vaginal melanoma underwent Tc-99m sulfur colloid (filtered) lymphoscintigraphy with the acquisition of planar and SPECT/CT images for localization of a sentinel node before surgery. The study identified both inguinal and perirectal sentinel nodes, which proved beneficial in mapping potential anatomic spread of disease for staging and therapy planning. These results provide evidence for the use of routine SPECT/CT imaging for pelvic lymphoscintigraphic studies or as an adjunct tool for localizing sentinel nodes in cases that would not be demonstrated with planar imaging alone.

Patients And Methods: We performed 45 FDG PET studies in 31 patients with salivary malignant tumors, using PET (33 studies) and PET/CT (12 studies). Patients comprised 21 males and 10 females with a mean age of 69 y (range 38-89).
Direct simulations of large populations of confined hydrodynamically interacting swimming particles at low Reynolds number are performed. Hydrodynamic coupling between the swimmers leads to large-scale coherent vortex motions in the flow and regimes of anomalous diffusion that are consistent with experimental observations. At low concentrations, swimmers propelled from behind (like spermatazoa) strongly migrate toward solid surfaces in agreement with simple theoretical considerations; at higher concentrations this localization is disrupted by the large-scale coherent motions.

In the present study we have conducted a comprehensive proteomic analysis of affinity-purified GLUT4 vesicles from 3T3-L1 adipocytes to discover potential regulators of GLUT4 trafficking. In addition to previously identified components of GLUT4 storage vesicles including the insulin-regulated aminopeptidase insulin-regulated aminopeptidase and the vesicle soluble N-ethylmaleimide factor attachment protein (v-SNARE) VAMP2, we have identified three new Rab proteins, Rab10, Rab11, and Rab14, on GLUT4 vesicles.
