Strawberries are available throughout the year either from production in the field or from high and low tunnel culture. Diversity of production conditions results in new challenges in controlling diseases before and after harvest. Fungicides have traditionally been used to control these diseases; however, their limitations necessitate a search for new approaches.

State and local health departments (LHDs) are increasingly conducting community health assessments, using models such as Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships. Within the peer-reviewed literature, relevant Web sites, and textbooks on health planning, there is limited practical guidance for bridging data collection and prioritization. The purpose of this article was to provide examples of how LHDs have bridged these steps through "data synthesis.

Methods: This retrospective case series spans December 2002 to January 2009 of survivors transferred to an echelon IV military trauma center in Europe serving as the primary evacuation hub for ongoing combat operations. Patient demographics and the situational and clinical findings at the initial drowning scene were reviewed.
Objective: To determine the scope of wrong-site sinus surgery.
Study Design: Electronic mail survey.
Setting: E-mailed via the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery's weekly newsletter.
Apple maggot, Rhagoletis pomonella (Walsh) (Diptera: Tephritidae), is a key pest in apple (Malus spp.) production areas located in the northeastern and midwestern United States and the eastern provinces of Canada. The development of Surround WP has offered a new approach for controlling apple maggot and other tephritid species, because this material is considered to be compatible with advanced integrated pest management and organic production systems.

Military-specific data elements include expanded demographic data to include military branch, service, rank, military occupation, and personal protective equipment. Varying data from each echelon are entered into the Joint Theater Trauma Registry, version 3.

The hydrophilic film formulations differ in the amount and kind of spreader-sticker that is incorporated into the kaolin particles.

The assay was optimised and evaluated using paired serum and oral fluid from healthy adult volunteers (n = 205) and preschool children (n = 98), oral fluid samples collected for routine measles, mumps and rubella testing (n = 537) and samples from a study of atopic dermatitis (n = 252). As chickenpox is predominantly a childhood disease and most adults are immune, it was crucial to have samples from children aged 1-5 years to evaluate the assay.

Methods: Fifty-two middle-aged and older insomnia sufferers and 49 matched normal sleepers underwent multiple nights of laboratory and home polysomnography (PSG) and provided concurrent subjective estimates of their sleep. Descriptive statistics, cluster analyses, and inferential tests were used to examine the nature of sleep time perceptions, identify subgroups with distinctive patterns such as perceptions, and explore factors that may contribute to these subgroups' distinctive sleep perceptions.
The challenges of peacekeeping place individuals at risk for the development of significant psychological distress (e.g., B.

The current study was conducted to determine whether such daytime comparisons might be affected by the setting (home vs. sleep lab) in which study participants sleep on the nights before such testing.

Veterans, their partners and children reported moderate-low to moderate-high levels of violent behavior. In addition, partner and veteran hostility scores were elevated relative to gender and age matched norms.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA large body of evidence indicates that hostility is related to increased morbidity and mortality and evidence is growing that posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is associated with poorer health outcomes. The majority of this research, however, has been conducted in male samples. As a result, the connections between PTSD and hostility and the ramifications of these variables on health in women are less clear.

Participants completed the MMPI-2 and several additional self-report measures of symptom severity (PTSD, depression, anxiety, hostility, and health complaints). Results indicated that MMPI-2 profiles differed significantly according to service era with Vietnam veterans scoring higher on scales 2, 8, and 0 and lower on scale 9 than did Gulf veterans.

We analyzed minirhizotron data using a mixed-age, proportional hazards regression approach to determine whether the risk of mortality (or "hazard") was higher for younger roots than for older roots in a West Virginia peach orchard. While root age apparently had a strong effect on the hazard when considered alone, this effect was largely due to different rates of mortality among roots of different orders, diameters, and depths.
