Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an early, targeted, individualized, intensive rehabilitation program called Rehab2Home, designed to transition surgical patients directly from acute care to home.

Design: The Rehab2Home program was implemented using a quality improvement (QI) approach between March 2023 and June 2023. The outcomes of the program were compared with a historical cohort of similar patients.

Objective: Multilevel airway surgery for obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (OSA) has benefits in improving sleep quality, but its effect on polysomnography (PSG) and 6-minute walk test (6MWT) parameters, including walking distance and cardiopulmonary performance, in patients with poor pre-operative cardiopulmonary performance remains understudied, which should be further investigated.

Methods: This prospective pilot study enrolled 27 consecutive OSA patients with poor pre-operative 6MWT results. All patients received multilevel OSA surgery, and the alterations of sleep parameters and 6MWT profiles were studied.

Macrophages play a central role in orchestrating the inflammatory response to implanted biomaterials and are sensitive to changes in the chemical and physical characteristics of the implant. Macrophages respond to biological, chemical, and physical cues by polarizing into pro-inflammatory (M1) or anti-inflammatory (M2) states. We previously showed that rough-hydrophilic titanium (Ti) implants skew macrophage polarization towards an anti-inflammatory phenotype and increase mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) recruitment and bone formation around the implant.

This paper examines how a certain threshing machine was developed and improved by Jobst Heinrich Voigt and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz between 1699 and 1700. While this machine was based on various mechanical principles and instruments, including the pinned drum mechanism first noted by Georg Philipp Harsdörffer, it was later reconceptualized as a 'mathematical' machine. I claim that such a positioning was not unique to this machine, but part of a wider movement during the 18th century that considered various artisanal instruments as mathematical, as well as agricultural and artisanal knowledge as scientific.

Previous work suggests that osteocyte-specific deletion of Cx43 leads to increased bone formation and resorption; however, the cell-autonomous role of osteocytic Cx43 in promoting increased bone remodeling is unknown. Recent studies using three-dimensional (3D) culture substrates in OCY454 cells suggest that 3D cultures may offer increased bone remodeling factor expression and secretion, such as sclerostin and receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL).

During disuse, mechanical unloading causes extensive bone loss, decreasing bone volume and strength. Variations in bone mass and risk of osteoporosis are influenced by genetics; however, it remains unclear how genetic variation affects the skeletal response to unloading. Synthetic surgical meshes are commonly used in abdominal wall reconstruction surgeries to strengthen a weak abdominal wall. Common mesh-related complications include local infection and inflammatory processes. Because cannabigerol (CBG) has both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, we proposed that coating VICRYL (polyglactin 910) mesh with a sustained-release varnish (SRV) containing CBG would prevent these complications.

Although bacteria exhibit significantly lower susceptibility to antibiotics in the biofilm state, the most common treatment approach still relies on antibiotics, exacerbating the phenomenon of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Patients with bone and muscle loss from prolonged disuse have higher risk of falls and subsequent fragility fractures. The aim of the study was to develop a sustained-release varnish (SRV) containing mometasone furoate (MMF) for sinonasal stents (SNS) to reduce mucosa inflammation in the sinonasal cavity.
