This paper demonstrates a cryogenic deformable mirror (DM) with 1020 actuators based on micro-electrical mechanical systems (MEMS) technology. Cryogenic space-borne infrared telescopes can experience a wavefront error due to a figure error of their mirror surface, which makes the imaging performance worse. For on-orbit wavefront correction as one solution, we developed a MEMS-processed electro-static DM with a special surrounding structure for use under the cryogenic temperature.

The limited innervation of muscles supporting pulmonary functioning in spinal cord injured (SCI) patients indicates that these individuals are at a particularly high risk for atelectasis and other sequelae of ventilator dependency. As an alternative strategy to endotracheal suctioning for secretion management, our acute rehabilitation facility utilizes an assistive cough device. This device has not been commonly utilized in the SCI population, and studies concerning this device have primarily focused on individuals with neuromuscular diseases.

The rapid technical development of cardiac MR imaging in the last decade enables us today to evaluate cardiac morphology, function and viability in a reliable and very good spatial and temporal resolution. The advanced technology allows us to conduct those examinations in an acceptable time for clinical daily use and thus, the number of indications for cardiac MR imaging is steadily increasing. Since the beginning of 2004, a dedicated cardiac MR scanner has been employed in the Department of Medical Imaging in the Sheba Medical Center.
