Background And Aims: Amiodarone is frequently prescribed alongside direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in atrial fibrillation (AF). There are concerns regarding drug-drug interactions (DDIs) between amiodarone and DOACs. The literature is conflicting on the clinical implications of this DDI, hence we conducted a meta-analysis to compare bleeding risk among patients receiving DOACs, with and without concurrent amiodarone.

Background: Rotavirus vaccines are moderately protective against illness in high mortality settings compared with low mortality settings. Vaccine effectiveness (VE) evaluations may clarify our understanding of these disparities, but estimates among key subpopulations and against rare outcomes are not available in many analyses due to sample size. We combined 25 datasets from test-negative design case-control evaluations in 24 countries that enrolled children with medically-attended diarrhea, laboratory-confirmed rotavirus stool testing, and documented vaccination status.

We report a selenium-catalyzed diamination of dienes using sulfamates as a convenient nitrogen source. This reaction proceeds regioselectively for 1,2-addition at the less substituted alkene, without the need for a tethered diamine. We also report the first diamination of dienyl phosphates and tosylates, affording synthetically useful α,β-diaminoketone derivatives with high diastereoselectivity.

  • This study compares two methods for drying endoscopes after disinfection: a standard drying method (SD) using an endoscope washer-disinfector (EWD) and a novel drying method (ND) using a special device with laminar and turbulent airflow.
  • Results showed that the ND was more effective, with no residual water left in endoscope channels compared to 90% in the SD group, and significantly less bacterial contamination after 14 days.
  • The ND also reduced drying time from over 16 minutes to under 6 minutes, highlighting its efficiency and potential as a better alternative for reprocessing flexible endoscopes.

A transition metal-free Se-catalyzed C-H amination protocol for α'-amination of enol derivatives has been developed. This reaction can be used to functionalize a wide variety of oxygen- and halogen-substituted alkenes spanning a vast range of nucleophilicities, giving α'-aminated enol derivatives with high regioselectivity. Amination of E/Z mixtures of alkenes proceeds stereoconvergently to give the (Z)-enol derivatives exclusively.

  • - The study investigates the effectiveness of endoscopic bougienage for treating benign esophageal strictures, focusing on how the timing between dilation sessions influences patient outcomes.
  • - A total of 238 patients were analyzed from two centers, revealing that those treated with more frequent dilation sessions achieved better clinical results, except for patients with strictures caused by radiation, who did better with less frequent sessions.
  • - The findings suggest that a higher frequency of bougienage generally results in faster symptom relief and better dilation outcomes, while specific cases like radiogenic strictures may require different treatment intervals for optimal results.

Introduction: In addition to paralysis and loss of sensation, high-level spinal cord injury (SCI) causes sympathetic dysfunction that can lead to autonomic dysreflexia (AD) and chronic immune suppression involving splenic leukopenia. Evidence has shown that treatment with either gabapentin or blockade of TNFα mitigates maladaptive plasticity and the underlying hemodynamic dysfunction, spleen atrophy, and immune dysfunction associated with AD. Because significant improvements long term was noted following treatments only during acute stages of recovery, we sought to systematically examine changes in proinflammatory and immunomodulatory cytokines to ascertain the reason.
